Another ACC game cancelled due to COVID Protocols

Rump wiped out an entire position room for us and you don't see us cancelling games. Sawft.

NC needs to find alternate opponent that also had a cancelation, then they meet up. That is what baylor is doing this weekend with houston.
Well Houston and Baylor had a week to get prepared to play each other. Not two days. Not gonna happen for Saturday

I’m surprised more aren’t testing positive TBH. There’s some silly negligent stuff happening at UM. I was at the game. When we left I saw all the players not dressed walking out together in close proximity. A group of at least two dozen. Why the staff doesn’t have them spread out is beyond me. That’s asking for trouble.

If you are only around the same people who aren't sick all the time what does it matter? They are in a bubble pretty much. That is the point of being careful. You are careful of anything new in a routine but being around the people you are always around if not sick should not be an issue.

You're probably right but they should start to discuss playing unknown opponents in this environment so when we get mid week cancels teams are ready to go against whoever the unknown opponent may be. Almost like a draw situation.

the game is cancelled. UNC looking for another game for their bye week - 9/26. That was their OOC opponent.

This is insane. Why can’t they use the abbot test? If it’s good enough for the White House, it should be good enough for college football. They test everyone twice to avoid false positives or negatives. Results come back within 5-15 minutes.

The Abbott test has been under quite a bit of scrutiny. It's not the false positives that are the issue. It's the amount of positive samples it doesn't catch. While it's better than nothing during a pandemic, it's not a test one should put a high level of confidence in.

It’s a kludgy workaround, but the Abbott test is a low volume, relatively rapid turnaround so it’s viable in small groups. Not ideal, but it has its use. The CDC recommends antigen tests like Abbot’s for asymp screening (taking into consideration that false negatives are possible). It’s probably one of the better options for screening, which is what you’re doing with the football team. The gold standard, PCR testing, results are not that quick, even under the best of circumstances you’re talking two or three days.

Ideally you use a combination of both. I’m not sure what testing methodology the schools are using, but I assume Abbott or some other quick screening method is going to be pretty common

If you've been exposed to the virus, is there a time lag before you would test positive? If so, immediate instant testing of those exposed might not paint the true picture. Might take more hours/days to show up.

My dept requires 48-72 hours from time of exposure unless you have signs or symptoms

The Abbot test is inaccurate.

I just read the Big 10 are going to share the cost as a conference for all testing on all teams. That was part of the agreement on resuming the season. They are testing every player, every day. Supposedly the conference is working (or maybe already arranged) for the testing lab for this.

They also have pretty stringent cut off levels for positive testing results -

They have 0 wiggle room for cancelled games. At least the ACC prepared for something like this and its already happened twice
