An example of how to Attack/Defend the Triple Option

I remember that game that I watched. The defense allowed less than 100 rushing yards in the game.
 
Jesse Palmer ****ting from his mouth, per usual. Commentators' insights are so incredibly worthless these days.
 
I'm not a fan of how Dono and Golden defends the triple option, but let's not get feelings in the way of facts here.

Shannon faced the triple option vs. GT 3 times. He gave up 293 rushing yards per game, and a 5.71 average yard per carry.

Golden and Dono faced the triple option 4 times, and have given up 268.5 rushing yards per game, and a 4.61 average yard per carry.

Carry on.
 
Once Shannon got his guys in the program, he ****ed all over the triple option.

Shannon was a certifiable special needs head coach but he destroyed Paul Johnson. Al Golden has gotten worked 3 straight years, worse and worse each time.

It's funny watching those teams and how they attacked the triple option. Heck, look at how the 2011 defense attacked the triple option.

I remember Shannon was asked about how he will defend the triple option for the first time (when PJ first took over) he kind of dismissed it and said "it's simple - assignment football." Sure enough, dude was right and he played the style to perfection in an attacking fashion.
 
You know how you defend the Triple Option? You tell your guys which offensive player they're assigned to on a particular playcall/offensive set, and you tell them to go knock the **** out of that fvcker on EVERY SINGLE PLAY. Don't worry about penalties, you hit them over and over and over and over again until they give up.

Had Chumley Ghoulden not turned down Jimmy Johnson's help, maybe the GT game could have looked something like that.

wait so you're saying we shouldnt play 2 deep safeties, corners 8 yds off the WRs and 7 guys in the box vs a triple option team?
 
Sorry, but it's hilarious to read about destroying the triple option when that option team was using the likes of Tevin Washington, Vad Lee or even the hard trying but plodding Joshua Nesbitt at quarterback. It's like we're determined to be clueless. You might as well define the Canes offense based on the Kyle Wright, Kirby Freeman or Stephen Morris years. Look mom, we stopped Kyle Wright. We know how to abuse the Miami Hurricane offense. Heck, throw in Jacory Harris. Robert Marve. Doesn't matter.

Justin Thomas isn't a great option quarterback but he's light years better than anyone Johnson has had there.

Miami defeated Oklahoma in 1985 through 1987 based on talent level alone. Any other version is bunk. I was emphasizing it at the time. We were destroying every other team in that time frame also. Oklahoma merely took the schematic brunt because their offense was different and we thrilled to pretend we had an edge in smarts as well as manpower.

If you reversed those programs and Miami evolved as a wishbone team and Oklahoma as a balanced but pass leaning team, but everything else remained the same including overall talent level and athletic ability in the trenches, Miami would have prevailed, and probably by greater margin.

I don't make up stats tough guy. Don't be mad, neither your hero Shannon or Golden can defend the triple option.

The difference is that Shannon attacked the triple option. Playing aggressive you will give up some big plays. Shannon's strategy prevented G tech from grinding the clock.

Golden likes to play passive and give up 3 yards a play

Well, anyone can talk about how Shannon/Golden differed in their approaches, and their varying levels of success against that offense...but the fact remains that you have to do two things:

1) Play your assignment, and
2) Bring **** with you and hit your assigned man EVERY SINGLE ******* PLAY.

Do that, you can destroy a triple option offense. Don't do one or the other, you'll get destroyed...either by the big play by not doing 1), or death by papercuts if you don't do 2).

except that we give up more like 5 yards a play
 
Please...the only the reason the triple option even works these days is the novelty. Once teams get used to it it typically does worse and worse....see GT. Of course you run it well etc it can still be challenging because we only see it once a year and our coach is an idiot.
