An Advantage I haven't Seen Discussed

I keep hearing about some of the advantages and disadvantages that Miami has.

Pro's:
- History
- Best recruiting grounds in nation
- Top 5 qb, with decent talent walking in the door
- Relatively easy path to playoffs in weak coastal

and Con's
- Facilities (or, lack thereof)
- Budgetary constraints
- Small School
- Stadium 30 miles away from campus

However, I think people are missing one of our biggest advantages. We are an event town. As fickle as our fans are when we are bad, they are tremendous when we are good. When UM football is good, it is like no other program (aside from maybe USC) because our players become celebrities. We get more coverage (positive and negative) than any other program. Miami is evolving as a city, and when teams are successful in Miami, that success is magnified. I think this needs to be played up more. The Hurricanes, when successful are more like a professional franchise and players and coaches reap the benefits of that. Unlike Alabama, where the star QB gets special treatment at the local applebee's in Tuscaloosa. Guys like Testaverte, Dorsey, Portis, Irvin, etc got special treatment at some of the best clubs and restaurants in the country. Many of them became more popular that dolphin or heat stars. I'm surprised the media hasn't pointed this out. Especially a guy like LeBatard. Yes, our fans may not be great in the bad times, there's a lot of sh$t to do here, but in the good times, we become the event in an event town.

Nothing wrong with the facilities for the last time. Once we get an indoor facility we will have everything everyone else has, albeit smaller than the likes of Texas and Bama, but we are a smaller school. Everything we need is here except a stadium, which is not ever going to happen on our campus.

The private small college talking point needs to end. Baylor is a small private school and is a top team

Big draw is the weakest division of all the Power 5. Virtual clear road to conference champsionship games and playoffs

I agree with you, but I hear it thrown out by the media all the time. In fact, I think our lack of an indoor facility is an advantage on the field as we are accustom to playing in the elements, and on a hot November noon game, it should not be understated.
