An additional big issue with administration in the future

I think it's ridiculous to suggest that any school would willingly be cheap towards its football program. All of the data shows that spending on football is a worthwhile investment where schools routinely earn astronomical returns. This is especially true @ MIA where the football program has given the university so much. So the question is why would the administration literally bite the hand that has fed it if it actually has a choice?

It's more that UM has been cheap on everything they do. There can be a fine line between cheap and frugal, but Miami has not traditionally been free spenders with the exception of a few things like shalalas hospital, etc. They think they can cut corners and find value in more cost friendly options.

Problem is that's not the best strategy necessarily for long term success, especially in football where it is a spending arms-race, and it has caught up to them. They thought we can go affordable on coaches, still be respectable, maybe win acc coastal every once in awhile, save money while still getting a nice ACC paycheck. It has has caught up to them and in other areas of the university as well. You play for second place, while everyone else plays for first, and you will finish last. They continue to apply the same strategy to get out of the problem, which they have been doing for 15 years, to the results you see now.

Im not really concerned with what the agents think, their job is strictly to get the most money they can for their client. with the kind of head coaches we attract (first time head coaches or head coaches from Non-power 5 teams) this isn't really a factor. May be if a top tier established coach like (Mario Cristobal or Dan Mullens) came here, but when was the last time that happened? Not since Dennis Erickson or Jimmy Johnson. It certainly wasn't a factor for Richt.

But the fact that we have this happen shows how bad Blake James is at picking head coaches.
An agent so acts as an advisor. So if a coach has his choice between 2 schools, all other things being equal, the coach will be advised to choose the school that pays its debts.

The school did similar to Randy Shannon. It didn't work out for Randy as a head man, but that man dedicated his life to this University. Still would. And they still fvcked him over where he had to bring a suit. They didn't pay the man a bonus for qualifying for a bowl game, tried to pay him some prorated amount on the termination of the deal that was far short of the agreed upon terms, they were supposed to pay him a per annum for the remaining years and simply didn't send the payment. Garbage like that. That's some dirtbag ****.

While we can chuckle at some of the nonsense for Al Golden, because he's Al Golden, thats now a trend. Yeah, we didn't see it with Richt because he didn't care about the money, but this university is filled with a bunch of nickel and dime cheap fvcks and it shows in every way. Randy and Golden just being two of the myriad of examples. Pay what you owe.

After busting his *** to rebuild the program - fighting his way through the scholarship reductions - they screwed Butch Davis over to the point he had to bust a move.

But to the unwashed - it was all Butch's fault!

No. It was UM's fault - and the football program has been tanked ever since - never mind that a substitute teacher took credit for the final exam the following year.

Its not because the school is cheap. It's because the school is Broke, with a capital B. It's amazing that a large % of this delusional fanbase still does not understand this.
Yet we have millions to pay Temple to buy out their coach who never even had his first day at work and we keep an inferior AD because he's such a good fundraiser.

I didn't want to go down that route, but you are not wrong.

I believe it is Cornel West that says something (and I'm paraphrasing, so don't kill me if I butcher it)...

Poor is a mentality that very few can ever escape. Broke is a circumstance...

I fear Miami is poor, brother.

Is how school has handled buyouts after firings. I’ve heard from coaches and agents that not only is the leadership structure problematic, but the fact that two former head coaches have had to sue in order to receive the buyouts in their contracts has left a very sour taste with these agents who represent a ton of key coaches in the industry. Most schools come to an agreement on final numbers when paying out the buyouts and try to keep it clean in order to not burn any bridges with these agents. Not a good look that Shannon and Golden both sued on money they were owed because it ties in to the reputation of us being very cheap.

Well, let's be honest... From a business P.O.V it's never a bad thing to avoid a payout when you can.
I mean sure it may be shady and seen as a douche move but these are part of a coaches contract and
it should have been reviewed by their agents before they signed.

So according to the financial statement for this yr the university has about $1.1 billion in liquid financial assets that could be utilized to pay for general expenditures. I don't understand why the university just doesn't allocate a large portion of the endowment payout for this yr ($40 M) to subsidize football? The only explanation is malfeasance & corruption. It's unfortunate because investing in football is actually one of the lowest risk investments they could make.

Agreed. We have struggled for awhile with a perception (right or not) that coaching at Miami is not a good job. This administration is just flat out terrible and somehow keeps their jobs.

That is what happens when your School is ran by corrupted politicians
