...at all in the last 3 weeks after all the defections. Hill, Garvin, Pink etc...We're still 7 1/2 point favorites...

They already played, down from -7.5 to -6. That was mostly a belief that the home field and motivational edge were being slightly understated in the betting line.

The guys who do this professionally won't get carried away with a game like this. There are decisive contrasts. Sometimes the more talented team from the major conference will simply methodically wear down the lower tier program. Sometimes the lower tier program has enough special athletes at key positions, and along with the energy advantage it proves to be more than enough.

The wise guys will have seen it both ways so many times. Sure, once the game gets going it will be obvious which of the two is more impactful. The consensus here is that the latter possibility is more likely. But the wise guys are not weighed down by pessimism toward the Canes and Manny Diaz. The Canes are viewed as simply another team. Those wise guys this time of year are trying to decipher college basketball more than anything else.

They don't take games like this too far away from the power rating consensus. Otherwise that power rating can come back and burn you.
