Congressman, and former collegiate athlete, Mark Walker proposes bill that would allow the NCAA athlete to profit off of their likeness

about time...this notion that it's amateur athletics has always been a sham

if this happens there will be about a dozen teams that will be able to compete....you will go from bags being dropped illegally to boosters buying 1000 overpriced jerseys legally.

schools with the largest fanbases will be in full control.

This. People are getting tired of the same few teams being in the playoffs every year already. Paying players will make it even worse. This would result in the actual product being less entertaining and a reduction and viewership, which will cause all that money to dry up.

Miami would not be able to compete in this environment.

can you imagine Harbaugh talking to a stud recruit and telling him" don't worry about money. We get 110,000 every home game and we will make sure most of them have AT LEAST one of your jerseys.

Why get paid in Tuscaloosa Alabama when u can live on south beach and get paid. Schools that are in the biggest markets and have the best lifestyle would win if this were to happen. USC and Miami.

This wouldn’t stop them from making additional under the table payments, as well as the benefits of not paying for anything in those college towns.

This. All of this. The dark money isn't going anywhere. It's just going to be stacked on top.

False. Where is the money coming from to convince a kid to attend Miami? We will always be outbid by schools with larger fan bases and deeper pockets.

Our biggest, and only disadvantage is $ and people think we'd benefit? That'd be it

there's some truth to this.

the marketplace is dynamic and complex. we don't know the competitive forces that will affect who this benefits, and who it does not.

but my gut says that schools in major media markets will be one winner.

As it is, about a dozen teams right now realistically have a chance to compete. Yeah, the occasional small school gets into a New Years Bowl. Look at the last 40 years, only one small school, BYU has won it and outside of a few outliers like Colorado and Georgia Tech, it’s the same dozen or so schools.
