Alonzo + Mario

Honestly, it's been a long time since I have seen a canes team come out in the first game of the season and play a steady, composed game like this. Except for a few OL penalties, it was a mistake free game.
By game 3, this team could be on our 1999 team trajectory

They were the 20th ranked defense from last year.. returning 9 starters.
I think we did fine for game 1
Their rush D was top 25 in the country and we still had success running the ball with vanilla Game plan.

Mario went for some poorly fitted together all-star coaching staff in year one.

it clearly didn't work. Awful.

but he showed me the smarts and humility to essentially admit the error and make an excellent course correction in (a) getting rid of staff and (b) using a different philosophy for new staff. And add to that be willing to get an OC with some air raid in him. Far cry from gattis.

Mario has shown something really good just in this.

Lee, Cohen, Harrell, Cloyd, Cisco, Deen, Ajay Allen and Brown were all transfers who will have significant roles this year

Colbie Young and Anez Cooper were lower ranked recruits who are both starting, today, after one year in the program.

Now, we also have players like the DB from Iowa who is now back up north

You can't win them all, but, in regards of evaluations, we seem to win more than we lose
Jaden Davis had a very good game.
