I agree. Mario is a known recruiter and sounds like he is assembling a staff of recruiters, which means the staff not only has the ability to bring in talented guys they also have the ability to identify talent and personnel. What advantage would Zo offer then outside of an opinion on talent and personnel that could only muddy the waters?

Am I over-thinking this, or missing something?

what's the harm of having multiple experts? Do you know why Alabama has been winning in addition to bags and talent? Having a loaded, stacked coaching staff.

If we gonna leave no Stones unturned we use all the resources we have. We have so many recruits down here and too long we have relied on just coaches to coach and also evaluate players. That has led to alot of misses. U find all legal ways to get a much skilled help as u can accomodate into the building. My take on it.

What's his salary right now at Seattle??? Does it even matter?? Meaning he's good with the money made in life and doesn't mind taking a bit of a hit to work here??? Just wondering.... I mean I assume no one here knows the answer to the third question but figured it was worthwhile to put out there....

Both similar and great points. My point was that we no longer have amateur hour and can probably do well with Mario and Rad.

Any possibility of an “AD in training” sort of role where he learns under Rad and eventually takes over when he retires?
 
What if hiring Zo allows the other coaches time to game prep more. If you have someone with Zo power speaking to recruits it could allow us to have an OC/DC that's not "into" recruiting.

Too many cooks in the kitchen could be true. But cant turn away smart and talented ppl. Especially when they have your best interest at heart.

I disagree with this, especially the last sentence. I think you collect talented, driven people, and surround yourself with as much of it as possible.

His actual role is sort of irrelevant, you just want him around because he adds football value and is a perfect fit for Mario in terms of creating a culture emphasizing hard work and holding high expectations.

To use a football analogy, it’s about Jimmies and Joe’s, not X’s and O’s. In the football administration world, Highsmith is a 5-star talent. I think you add him to the team and the rest will sort itself out

One positive aspect of having Zo run "Recruiting and Player Evaluation" is that he can focus 100% on this activity due to not being tied up coaching on field during Spring practice, Fall practice, game weeks. He would be able to dedicate FULL TIME to the search / evaluation function .. working WITH the position coaches and 'move around' depending on which coach needed the most assistance at any given time. Also input to Mario as an advisor. Hybrid position. Unique and workable only with Mario I believe.
 
make Zo in charge of scouting/recruiting/evals, among other things. he would excel in that role and the team would benefit greatly

I believe Zo would be an incredible asset to this program. I really hope we find a role for him that would make both parties happy.

What ws his pay at Packers? He was their Director/Lead Personnel Scouting correct?

Yes, if it is the "modern-day-technology role of mid-90s Pete Garcia and Butch Davis", then it is something that we should pursue wholeheartedly.

We need a system to track and evaluate these kids from Pop Warner/Peewee leagues all the way up through high school. Film, stats, camps, the whole enchilada.
