Don’t abandon run game. You abandon playing in a phone both. That opens up everything. It’s easier to do everything spread out.
 
Look at the YPC for most spread teams -- higher than UM

With that said, Spread doesnt make a difference if you cant throw down field

Even Bama with 5* linemen n 5* RBs abandoned the pro style ground and pound. Spread offenses are like the 3 point line, its an equalizer. You dnt need supreme athletes to put up big numbers just like how so many good 3 point shooters arent elite all around basketball players.

Look at Miami’s YPC out of the spread, much higher than out of their base offense.

This is pretty much the hard truth. It don't really matter what OC comes in here nor what offense diaz plans to embrace. With the garbage OL we've trotted out the past few years none of it matters. We best pray to a higher power that the answer lies in the depth we have already. Because even with a Heisman caliber qb, this offense is F@CKED until the OL issue is resolved. And I don't see either present on this roster. Pure vomit
 
Spread teams runs the ball all over the place. It is really basic football camouflaged with lots of motion and glitter, intended to confuse the opponent. Just watch the blocking and ball carrier and you'll be amazed at how basic it is.

The confusion, intimidation and holes shrink at each stage up the ladder. You can laugh while prancing past Florida A&M. Once you get to Clemson or Alabama or Ohio State you need to knock them aside. Not all of the young cutesy offensive coaches understand that, or want to be bothered by that.

Outliers are the good plan. We need a quarterback who plays like DeShaun Watson and an offensive line like Oklahoma or Wisconsin. Once we have those two characteristics in place, along with a big intimidating defense that is within the top 10 or thereabouts in yards allowed per pass attempt, then we can legitimately consider a national championship opportunity.

This is hardly the Canes glory years, when you didn't need a top 5 recruiting class, and you might get to play only one postseason game, and in your own stadium for the title. Sorry about that. Cutting corners no longer available.

My worry is implied by the OP: We'll be flash but not substance on offense. The defense will be similar to what we've had recently...attacking but not rugged.
 
Spreading the field naturally opens lanes, as long as you can complete your passes. If teams don't fear your WRs and QB, they will still stop the run regardless what scheme you run. Here's hoping we get a QB that has a functioning brain, and at least an above average arm.

Common bro what is this? Who has ever said to abandon the run game? No one can win without running the ball. It’s football 101 dude it’s something that’s basically a given. Imagine if a defense knew you were gonna throw every play. That’s like telling your quarterback to shoot him self in the knees with a shotgun. Common man do better.
