All Eyes On Mario

What portal QB would you have liked for Miami to sign to be TVD’s backup?

Personally (and Mario may have) I would have kicked the tires on the top tier QBs in the portal in general to upgrade the position. Now that may not have been where the budget is for this off-season, but I would have followed the if you’re looking, we’re looking…

In parallel to that, I would have looked (and would still be looking) for an experienced back up, potentially from a lower level, with experience in the offense we will be running.

You are ok with the QB room?

You seem to have a faith in TVD that some of us are more wait and see.

After the room was destroyed…(and TVD reportedly called it a day)

TVD was handed the starting the job when he walked in the door. Started despite not buying into the new offense, connecting with his receivers or getting on the same page with the new OC. Sucked. Reportedly bailed on the team. Flirted with Alabama.

That’s not QB1 leadership. And I’m not even concerned about the flirting with Bama because life in the NIL world.

All that and we sit with him and no QB2 heading into Summer 2023.

We wouldn’t be ok with it previously….

I actually agree with all that assuming he really did have a problem with his wide receivers and attitude last season. All that is hearsay. But even still, it’s not like Mario didn’t look for QBs in the portal. They just wouldn’t come unless we were willing to let TVD loose. And as you note, Bama wanted him badly. So which decision would you have made?

Gun to my head - I’m starting over if I could get a top portal gun. Flip it all and go.

I could be nuts and I really hope we get great TVD all 2023 vs a question mark.

Need a strong year from the offense

I believe TVD can be an all conference caliber player. He’s shown it before and not for just a two or three game run. The fact that Alabama tried to pay him to transfer tells me it’s not just Miami fans that see his talent. That said, the depth at QB is scary and if he gets hurt, we’re screwed. I just don’t think we’d be able to attract a quality transfer QB unless the job was literally there for the taking. Experienced guys don’t transfer to compete for a job. They’re going somewhere that they know they’re starting.

I expect him to be the coach here for 10+ years regardless what the W's & L's are. I'm taking a relaxed approach on this guy.
Same take. This program has gone all in with CMC. Way early on this but we might be staring at the longest tenured coach at Miami when CMC's coaching story is finally finished.

Literally every coach above the blue line stockpiled massive amounts of talent. Except for Coker and we all know what type of situation that was.

All of those coaches are elite recruiters.

Meyer ain't stockpile s-h-i-t, He inherited stacked rosters at UF & OSU, He gave props to Zook for not leaving the cupboard bare at UF.

Total agreement here. It’s been such a frustrating two decades with false upticks and real letdowns, some of us have resorted to “willing” this team/program to win: recipe for more frustration. Last year, the dam broke for me. Yes, Mario is here long term. Yes, this program was, and still maybe broken. Yes, change takes time if it is real. I too, am going chill and let things work themselves out. OP’s article is spot on though, regarding all that’s changed and available at CFB’s fingertips. I think Mario is the right hire to use every tool available to make us relevant again. The anxiety-filled anticipation and the thrill of approaching game day is not the same as past years, I miss that, but perhaps it’s a good thing at my age. Looking forward to what replaces it.

Who reported TVD called it a day? Was that before or after he was pancaked to the turf repeatedly? Or after he went back out and risked worse injury to play vs FSU?

Rather than putting words in his mouth, I’m referencing @Brooklyndee and my perception of concerns around TVD’s commitment during the 2022 season.

We'll see how relaxed you are if we lose to another bottom dweller or two this year. Good to great coaches don't need 5 **** years to win. Not at a place like Miami. Maybe when you are only a great recruiter, and not a great coach, do you need 5 years to build a team talented enough to only get monkey stomped by Utah. A great coach can turn a program around much faster. There is far more to winning football than just acquiring talent. You need to coach that talent up and put it in position to make plays that win games. I have seen nothing yet that tells me Mario can do that at a high level.

Unless your program is a bottom feeder, or crippled by probation, 5 years is a long **** build. We need real signs of improvement this year, and I don't mean 7-5 with more losses to Eastern Uzbekistan State.

That’s what Eastern Uzbekistan State does to people…

No choice but to be hes here nmw. We could go 2-10 & he'd be here next year.

He may be, that's true. It doesn't mean I'll care enough to support the program. This might be the first time in 40 years that I forget to watch the first game of the season. I'm losing interest in the nepotism at UM.
