After the room was destroyed…(and TVD reportedly called it a day)

TVD was handed the starting the job when he walked in the door. Started despite not buying into the new offense, connecting with his receivers or getting on the same page with the new OC. Sucked. Reportedly bailed on the team. Flirted with Alabama.

That’s not QB1 leadership. And I’m not even concerned about the flirting with Bama because life in the NIL world.

All that and we sit with him and no QB2 heading into Summer 2023.

We wouldn’t be ok with it previously….

Very good points. I think TVD is average at best to begin with. So yeah, having no real backup is a major **** up

Nearly all of those items were discussed in real time when they happened other than TVD packing it in which was called out by one of our trusted insiders to at least some extent…

More like taking an accounting than revising…

And even if you skip through to November/December, you know what your room looks like, who needs to shirt, who may move on (1 of 2 or 2 of 2)…. and here we sit

You don’t believe that TVD earned the job through his 2021 performance? After seeing Garcia play, do you think naming Tyler the starter was a mistake? After watching Gattis’ offense, do you question a QB not getting along with him? Despite his lackluster play last year Van Dyke was far better than anyone else who lined up under center last year.

Earned entering? - Yes. Clearly handed prior to Spring and Summer in a new offense? - No, something we’ve not been ok with over time.

Feelings around Gattis are emotional because he was such a failure and asshat after we were pumped up to believe he was a home run.While coaches should build around their talent, a QB flat out not buying in and bailing is a culture nightmare we’ve trying to fix.

So while TVD was highly likely to have earned the starter role by outpacing the rest of the room, you are ok with coaching the team and having them see:

- Garcia isn’t a Miami QB1
- Brown needs and wants a redshirt
- TVD is a question mark and coming off of injury
- that either 1/2 or 2/2 may transfer

And you do NOTHING

So unless TVD stays healthy AND meets the lofty top 5 POTENTIAL, we have to hope our true freshman QB develops at a rate that outpaces his rating…

We’ve questioned nearly every QB battle since Shannon, and here we are analyzing the room again..

I agree with you that room needed a quarterback this past spring
 
I'm hoping Manning transfers after this year. It doesn't look like we're recruiting quarterbacks very hard.

In a perfect world you sign a guy out of the portal who is a capable backup ad possibly even compete for a starting job. In reality, no quarterback who is trying to play in 2023 is transferring here to try to compete with a third year starter. Regardless of what fans want to believe, veteran QBs transfer because they’re getting a starting job.

Right. We are working with reality. No one is saying they expected an elite QB1 and TVD. What we are saying is we hitched our wagon to TVD and we hope it pays off and asking for a reasonable QB2 is not an absurd ask when, again, it was clear TVD, Jake or both were bolting, Brown isn’t a starter at QB and wants to shirt and we otherwise have walk-ons and 3 star true freshman....

Others went out and got QBs to compete with incumbents or start over them..

mario has many wins and we need to recognize those. he also has a few big Ls, and Gattis et al. and the failure to bring in anyone at QB with some experience are big Ls. however, i suspect they are working on it and maybe they DO bring in someone before fall camp.

Does 5-Star Jake Heaps have any eligibility? remember that fiasco? if not, below is a refresher. the OP of the thread below has been banned since 2015, maybe that was his punishment for starting the Heaps is a-coming thread.
