All the intrusive thought that ran through my head of what I wanted to do to bauman when he miss that block:
Did Beck have Toney open on the under route?Lofton injury was huge. Bauman was a liability. But I have to go back to the end. Miami wins the championship on the final drive. You basically have 1 minute to go 40 yards. How can you f#ck that up so bad? LIke I said before, if we try to move it down the field and get stopped on 4th and whatever, I tip my cap to them. But the end of the game was a debacle. You can't throw a pick on 2nd and 3.
I’d replace Dawson with Cali at this point. This is all I need to see. This ignores that TEs can be used to create massive mismatches by dictating defensive personnelll, which is why having a great Pass threat and blocker out of 1 te is a mismatch nightmare for Defenses.
There was a third and long where we needed to convert and Malachi was 3 yards short and he totally ignored a block that could’ve broken him free. Dude needs to be on some ADHD meds.Made one nice catch but thats about it. You guys downplayed Lofton being out.

He was a liability a lot more times than he was an asset. Had 1 really good block to set up a Fletcher run and 1 good catch. Otherwise **** the bedThere was a third and long where we needed to convert and Malachi was 3 yards short and he totally ignored a block that could’ve broken him free. At least Knowles redeemed himself his senior year.I can’t think of a worse player that played all season since maybe Kacy rogers or Robert Knowles
Why the **** was he in at all after that
Pray his parents see this thread, too.I’ll never forget sitting in the cotton bowl after the game in the family section and Baumans parents were *****ing about Beck getting “special treatment” bc Carson got to go out different gates to the team buses so he didn’t get harassed by fans. I knew right then Bauman wasn’t made for this. Of course high profile QBs get special treatment. Get over it.
I have to push back a little here. Losing Riley Williams was a bigger blow than we expected. That kid was big coordinated and fast. Kid just got homesickMiami has done a ****** job recruiting/developing the TE position - I do not blame Bauman for that.
You said exactly what i was thinking. It wasn't a bad decision, but Beck cant make that throw. He should know this better than we do.Some smart people here say yes, some smart people here say no. I don't know. Don't think it's an "easy" throw to Toney but Beck consistently hits that 15-20 yd throw.
Looked to me like Beck needed to wait 1 more second (which he had) and Toney is open. I can't hate on Dawson though for that call. It had multiple open receivers.
The Marion throw was beyond Beck's capabilities. It was open but need a stronger arm to hit that. By comparison- if Ward is QB maybe he sails it over Marion's head- but it's either dropped in the bucket for a TD or an overthrow out of bounds. But it doesn't get thrown short and picked.
Might be cruel to say but I think Mendoza also makes that throw.
Very good news is Mensah makes that throw every time with plenty of air for the WR to catch it in stride so we won't see a repeat next season.
But a lot of this circles right back to coaching. Beck and Marion said there was a miscommunication. Beck thought Marion would flatten the route and Marion thought he should stay vertical. This is the last play in the last game of the season. How can there still be a question about the route concept?
That's fair, but I would counter with we ideally would have more depth whether that be through better recruiting or the transfer portal.I have to push back a little here. Losing Riley Williams was a bigger blow than we expected. That kid was big coordinated and fast. Kid just got homesick. If you replace Bauman with Riley on every snap last night the trophy is in Coral Gables as I type. We brought in a stud, just lost him.

and right after I posted this I see this thread: https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/woodiel-is-gone.206274/That's fair, but I would counter with we ideally would have more depth whether that be through better recruiting or the transfer portal.
I know that Lofton was injured, but let's face it... despite his legendary exploits on Green Tree, he has been little more than serviceable during actual games. Maybe that is due to injuries, poor coaching, him being a tweener and/or play calling but it should have been obvious to the coaches last portal cycle that we needed some help at that position.
Hate the coaches for seeing promise & not coaching him up..He is officially the Cane that I will forever hate the most.
Legit hate.
Wish him health but no wealth.
Because we practice too much, that's why Indiana is so well prepared.... less practiceSome smart people here say yes, some smart people here say no. I don't know. Don't think it's an "easy" throw to Toney but Beck consistently hits that 15-20 yd throw.
