Alabama / O’Brien impact

I didn't mean for that to be sent, but I wanted to sort of introduce myself a little before I get into all that. First, greetings and salutations fellow football guys and gals. I have enjoyed reading your comments and found many very thoughtful and helpful views on this year's Hurricane team. I think of myself as a somewhat reasonable Bama fan that goes back to coach Bryant's era. Was sitting in New Orleans in 1992 and I was probably as surprised as you how that one worked out. But it was needed for us.

Anyone, I thought I could give you guys a little better view of what schemes and players we will put out there in a couple of weeks. Again, sorry for the first reply.

That Penn State gig was a tough act at the time. He was OC for New England and dialed up some decent sets for Houston. But he's not running O'Brien's offense at Alabama. He runs the stuff we were running for years around here. He isn't changing the play calls and the OCs at BAMA learn the language the players already speak. Everyone is up to speed the moment he walked on campus.
 
This will be another one of Saban's reclamation project. I too agree O'Brien ain't all that great but this is Bama we're talking about. Saban will make him a decent coordinator.

O'Brien will be there for 2 years w/ Bryce Young and then take some mid-level HC gig.
 
Saban came out and said O'Brien is gonna run the same Bama offense they've been running the past few years, so I don't expect the scheme to change much. The difference is that Sark and Lane were excellent game day callers. They could make in-game adjustments and call exactly the right play at the right time. I doubt O'Brien can match them at that, but he does have all the talent in the world at his disposal, which can make him look better than he actually is.

That wasn't Sark's reputation when he got here. Being a Falcon fan I even wondered what we were getting into. Sark created a balanced offense for us in 2020 that didn't fully exist in 2019 and really since before Tua. Being physical in the red zone and getting tough rushing yards to keep drives alive was costing us in the playoff. Sark figured out how to be explosive in a double tight end formation and we rode that train all the way to the bank. I think we are staying very committed to that idea against the Canes. I also see Bryce Young working as much out of play-action looks as opposed to just pure RPO stuff in the zone read.

I'd have traded 2 first rounders just for the gas mask. Lineman not included.

Listen, Miami can compete with Alabaga on all levels THIS season. Likens has been designated the title passing game coordinator. Experience experience experience. I like Rhett and Likens offensive philosophies over O'Brien. They are ripe for the pickens THIS year.

Give good info and you can stay as long as you like. Ride out the lows, nothing’s personal, except Jerry Jeudy and the ‘93 Sugar Bowl.

Tight end and ST coach from Tennessee, Jay Graham. He actually is dealing with some mental health issues and had to check himself into a professional clinic. LOL, I don't think he was here long enough to get tired of anyone.
 
We talking about the guy who traded Hopkins for Johnson? Lol he ain’t that smart. And don’t come tell me that Hopkins was gone after last year anyway. One more year of Hopkins is worth 10 years of Johnson.

What does him being an incompetent GM while handling HC duties have to do with him being an OC at a school like Alabama? Anyway

As someone already posted, not worried about him being a spectacular playcaller. I’m willing to bet that they are’t banking on that either, atleast for this game. They are going to pound the pill and get the backs/TE’s involved to deploy our LBs as much as possible until we show we can stop it. If they can do that, then he can he a Pat Nix at OC, it won’t even matter.

Personally, O'Brien didn't prove to be much of an NFL GM. I always thought he was a better coach and Houston would have been much better off if they hadn't put all that on his plate. At Bama, he's not asked to do either. We got a pretty good head coach and he calls all the shots down to bathroom breaks. Bill O'Brien runs Bama's offense and coaches QBs. That is his entire job description.

There are going to be growing pains. There *HAS* to be. If they just come out and roll us up on offense, I'm going to be really disappointed.

Remember, Sark is an EXCELLENT offensive mind. He may have been a rampant drunk in his earlier days, but the dude can call some offense. Also last year was Year 2 with him. This year is ALL NEW DUDES. Literally everywhere. BOB hasn't coached in college since 2013.

Yeah but we won a NC with ole Clappy at the helm and just out talented everyone. I will admit that we are playing them at the most opportune time. I just wish we still had GR, Phillips and Roche along with LBs I had confidence in.
