Alabama Coaching Machine

Look at Saban's record prior to Bama, including his years at LSU. Decent, but not this demi-god like "coaching" like he's doing now. Of course it's b/c of the financial backing along w/ the protection of the NCAA. Bama is so ingrained in to the good-ole boys club, that some can call it it's founding member. They've been waiting for the right coach since the early 90's. They've been busted before, but that was prior to Saban and Emmert. How Emmert is still head of NCAA, I have no idea.

Great observation considering how identical Miami and Alabama are financially.

Doesnt even matter. We have a bunch of high school level coaches on staffs...guys like Butch Jones and multiple other coaches fired were unemployed and would have excepted analyst work for a season...we could of kept Patke a Ga another year to be honest.

This is Saban's enforcer.

As much as I detest the douche bag, Saban operates like a successful private company... the staff is 100% accountable, thus he hires a very good staff and they have to produce. Richt operates like government... very little accountability, his hires aren't the best, nepotism, incompetence and poor production are tolerated.

Saban hires fired head coaches or guys trying to get head coach positions. Who on our staff has even a cHance of being a HC poached?. Crazy part is i thought richt had a better coaching tree than our previous coaches...the lie detector test determined......

We all know Saban is a great coach (as much as I hate to admit it). But, there's a reason for that and it's the "staff" he's allowed to hire. All of these "analysts" provide him with the info he needs to run an efficient system. He's gone from a power running offense to a throw it all over the yard type of offense. A lot of that comes from listening to these "analysts". This is what you get with a blank check football budget.

actually, their QB is responsible for the new-look offense; he's a special talent.

I was using an analogy that was a bit tongue in cheek but has validity. Barring Manny's efforts and success with the defense and coaching staff... CMR hasn't done a good job with the offense, hence our anemic performances. I blame the Captain first and foremost... period.

This. What innovative, creative, genius coaching decision has Nick Saban made at Alabama? He has an unlimited budget to pay coaches, assistants, players whatever and he out talents every single team he plays against. It wasn't Saban who opened up the offense and stepped into the 21st century. It wasn't Saban who shifted from a slow, base 3-4 to a more athletic, multiple 3-3-5. He paid assistants to implement those changes. All he had to do was sign off on them. The dude has won at an historic rate but let's be real. His Jimmy's and Joe's trump his X's and O's.

SMH. This can't be serious.

Are some people really trying to discredit a guy who won NC's at 2 different schools, invented defensive concepts back in the 1980's that are still considered forward-thinking today, and has completely changed the identity of his Alabama team to keep up with the trends in college football? The same guy who coached under the other GOAT football coach of the world, Bill Belichick?

LOL. Wow.
That lil' MF'er is a coaching savant. Get over it.

Miami has endless amounts of money.

The admin just doesnt care to spend it on football. There is a fundamental belief at the school that the football team shouldnt be the most important part of the school.

Until there is a salary cap for coaching staffs, and an elimination of these “analyst” positions, the sport will be ruined.

Richts coaching tree is abysmal. 18 years as a HC and hasnt produced a single coach of note from that tree. What does that tell you?

Now look at Sabans or Urbans trees.

Lol @ people in this thread discrediting Saban, while we have a "head coach" who gets outschemed consistently. Saban would/could run circles around Richt when it comes to football strategy and game planning. If you think otherwise, you have an IQ below 70 or you're f-ucking blind.
Look how quickly he bolted from the NFL (mid-season!) when he realised it's not as easy if it's a level playing field.

He's a fantastic college HC, but he's not a football genius.

Sabans age is just too old, wouldn't want him here at UM. Ditto for Butch or Belichick.
Plus he had a mediocre record at Michigan State. His record there or say Oklahoma State, is solely what I would use to judge him by, not his non-probation/massive sanctions crippled record at the actual school I'd want him at, Miami.

I don't hate Rick. He is capable of winning the ACC coastal. That's an improvement. I hate that he refuses to run a spread offense, which I think will get the most out of the style of athletes at Miami. That is why the acc coastal will be his ceiling.
We do run a spread. The problem is our spread consists of 3 formations and 5 plays.

Best amateur team money can buy. I’ve actually been conditioned to vomit every time I read or hear the word ‘Alabama’. On drive time to work, I ride with my windows down, because if I tune in to (or, more appropriately, roll the tuner by) the Sirius ESPNU station for 5 seconds and “Alabama” is inevitably mentioned, I vomit out of the window and all over the side of my car. True story.

I know it..thats why im pointing it out. Legit..i saw Wesley Mcgriff as a DC for OLE MISS right now i think he was a db coach for us maybe under Shannon?. I think Richt's best guy is Mike Bobo. lol

Most of all that you say is very true.

But I do take issue with 2 things: first, he had great resources and a great owner when with the Dolphins, and sucked royally. So badly he quit. Telling Wayne: "I can't do this anymore." The shouting match that grew out of that meeting was one for the ages, with Saban running away with his tail between his legs.

Second, many of his "innovative" defensive concepts you allude to, have their origins in Bill Arnsparger's playbook, and a few of those were from Blanton Collier. Great conversation I had with Coach Arnsparger about that before he passed away several years ago.

Otherwise, Saban has been responsible for much of his own success. Can't fight you on that.
