We all know Saban is a great coach (as much as I hate to admit it). But, there's a reason for that and it's the "staff" he's allowed to hire. All of these "analysts" provide him with the info he needs to run an efficient system. He's gone from a power running offense to a throw it all over the yard type of offense. A lot of that comes from listening to these "analysts". This is what you get with a blank check football budget.

Actually, I think what it shows is that a) he understands what is happening in the game (he saw how damaging mobile QBs were to his preferred D and he saw that his preferred type of DB was too limited, so he began to recruit much more versatile athletes back there) b) and he is willing to adapt because he flat out NEEDS to win national championships and understands the best way to do that is to recruit at a very high level AND maximize your strengths/minimize your weaknesses in all three phases of the game.

Make it simple. Saban is a defensive guy. Mobile QBs who could throw f'd up his defenses, particularly when they also used tempo (see Johnny Football and Ole Miss's system). So why wouldn't he adopt the same concepts to f*** up other defenses?

Saban was 30 minutes from losing the national championship last year with a trancendent QB who'd already burned his redshirt sitting on the bench. Even a guy like him, with his resume, would have been torched this year if waited to break out Tua after watching their starting QB flounder for the second straight title game.

He is a fantastic defensive guy and without a doubt the greatest coach of my lifetime. But he's also stubborn as **** and far from a great offensive mind.

Bama has the money to buy any coach or player to mask whatever shortcomings he has and right now they show no sign of slowing down. They will be the overwhelming favorite next year as well, and rightfully so.

This. What innovative, creative, genius coaching decision has Nick Saban made at Alabama? He has an unlimited budget to pay coaches, assistants, players whatever and he out talents every single team he plays against. It wasn't Saban who opened up the offense and stepped into the 21st century. It wasn't Saban who shifted from a slow, base 3-4 to a more athletic, multiple 3-3-5. He paid assistants to implement those changes. All he had to do was sign off on them. The dude has won at an historic rate but let's be real. His Jimmy's and Joe's trump his X's and O's.

Yes and no. Yes because it feels like everyone else is fighting for second place, but no because college football needs a bad guy. The irony is Miami used to be that bad guy. Look at the list of most viewed college games- I think Miami makes the top 15 3 times. Might have been a little bit racism behind it (team full of inner city kids knocking off the good ol boys) but it was must-see tv. Sadly, no one fears us anymore. We have a monster defense again, but are still just a shell of what we used to be because Mark Rick thinks an offense developed at the same time as the Ford Probe is the wave of the future. I GUARANTEE that an OC like Kendal Briles would have this exact same offense averaging 40 ppg, even against P5 teams. Rick, of course, wants to win, but he wants to do it HIS way because it validates his belief that UGA made a mistake in forcing him to hire an OC.

BTW I think the NCAA's wet dream is a Notre Dame-Alabama final because it sets up a good vs. evil showdown with two teams that have massive fan bases. Watch the way the refs will subtly manipulate games with bogus PI calls and other phantom penalties so that Notre Dame finishes the season undefeated.

Saban coaches the defensive backs. Bama's defense since he took over as Head Coach has been pretty special. His offense has been anemic at times.
What Saban does though is know what his strengths are, and what his weaknesses are, and goes out and finds guys who can help him with his weaknesses. Yes, it helps to have the whole state legislature of Alabama funding your operation. But make no bones about it, it is Saban who calls the shots on that football team. He is God in Bama country. It is he who makes sure all bases are covered when it comes to recruiting, offense, defense, and special teams. He is the ultimate CEO for a college football team. That is what we need from Richt, albeit with a tighter budget.

Richt had to donate $1 million of his own cash to get an IPF built at Miami.

Saban has Bama boosters paying off his mortgage for him, even though he's the last guy who needs anyone to pay off his mortgage for him.

I don't hate Rick. He is capable of winning the ACC coastal. That's an improvement. I hate that he refuses to run a spread offense, which I think will get the most out of the style of athletes at Miami. That is why the acc coastal will be his ceiling.
