Butch won 3 conf titles, was 4-0 in bowl games, played in January, and had a 10+ win season at Miami.

He won the conference outright in 2000. He lost to Virginia Tech and Syracuse when it mattered. The Big East was truly awful. In those 5 years how did the conference champion do in the major bowl? The conference champion went 1-4. It took year 6 to get to double digit wins. He creatively got us through probation and set the foundation for the 34 game win streak. Man, I like Butch, but for those revisionist historians our "fans" wanted him gone up until the 2000 FSU game. Need I remind everybody the banner flying started with Butch.

While all this is true given his circumstances Davis still showed more promise than Golden has. Despite being down-30 ships and the bad press he was able to beat a highly rated, top 5 ucla squad and not lose in inferior teams with more losses than wins.

Who gives a **** of the banner flying started with Butch? Has nothing to do with Golden's ineptness. Golden hasn't shown anything as a coach here.

Davis most certainly showed more promise because of his pedigree as the DC at Miami and with Dallas. Butch did inherited a Top 10 team. You point out UCLA but you don't mention the 66-14 embarrassment the week before. My point here is our "fans",at least quite a few, wanted Davis gone. Davis was hammered for the same ineptness. What Davis did is truly remarkable, but he took a lot of heat, a lot of it unjustified.

I have no disagreement that the book on Golden isn't good to date. I would hope that the university weighs his overall performance objectively after the season is over.

Butch lost to Virginia form 1995-1999. That is 5 years. Miami beat them in 2000.

So Miami beat them in 2000 but Butch didn't? Makes sense.

Of course he does and that's not what I meant. It took Davis 6 years to beat Virginia Tech. I also took Davis 6 years to beat FSU. And he was absolutely getting hammered for it up to the beginning of 2000. And fans were going bat ***** crazy after the Washington loss.

I'd suspect you were in diapers or pretty **** close in the mid-1990s. Davis was getting murdered by the fan base until he beat FSU in 2000.

I could give a rat's if he stays or goes. That will be determined after the season is over. I'd suspect if he wins the last two he'll be given 2015.

Butch is terrific at talent evaluation, probably as good as anybody in the game. His floor could very well be Golden's ceiling. And what he did at Miami during the probation period is truly remarkable. But good lord, Butch has one 10+ win season in 10 years in college. In his 4th year at North Carolina, he finished 8-5.

I agree that fans wanted him gone. So what? They were wrong. Doesn't mean they are about golden as the evidence against Golden surely suggest the concern is legit.

It looks like your bashing Davis in order to defend Golden. Davis inherited some good players buy it was a far cry from the team that Miami had a year earlier and Davis did what he was suppose to do and that was Atleast win a share of the big east. This despite numerous suspensions and losses from the year prior.

Golden on the other hand inherited one of the most experinced teams in the acc nd went 5-6 against div 1 teams including losses to Maryland and Boston college.

I'll also acknowledge Davis had some ups and downs as expected with -30 ships ( the ' cuse loss you mentioned) but he also bounced back and had some meaningful wins...something Golden hasn't done.

That's one more than what Golden has plus 3 conference championships. Davis almost beat a top flight Lsu team despite what? 18 suspensions? Golden loses to a hapless Maryland team ( zero wins ve div 1 schools) with players suspended.

So Butch didn't assemble 3 MNC worthy teams because I was in high school during his tenure? Not sure I'm following your argument.
