I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Al Blades Jr last night. We met at a gathering of "Charlotte Cane's" that was sponsored by the University of Miami, in Charlotte NC. (Thanks UM, GREAT FREE FOOD AND DRINKS) it was a pleasure to have a conversation with such a well spoken young man. He is currently working a pit crew for NASCAR. I have learned of late that this is a very good post football job for many athletes across the spectrum. It takes an athlete, that is fast with his, body and his hands. It is also nice to see a post ncaa and NFL player who has a good head on his shoulders and has a plan for his future.

I asked him why he portaled to Duke in his senior year. He explained that Mario really had no way to evaluate his talents due to injuries the previous years. He felt his best option was to start new, plus he respected Manny's coaching.

I’m not sure he answered the question about leaving truthfully. I have a feeling, nothing was guaranteed or promised. He saw all the offseason WO and drills and said. No way, I’m always injured and need to find a way to play my final year. He played it safe and took his talents to Duke.

Being the g/f of an athlete at a Power 4 school is fraught with danger, and typically ends poorly.

As Charles Barkley likes to say, ‘no NBA player should be married during his career’.

Totally agree with both statements. To this day, my friends and I wondered why Tiger Woods got married so young! She was still in HS when he started at UM and I believe she's still in college at FSU so not sure of their age differences either.

He was at the get together with a lovely young black woman (UM grad) and who also lives and works in Charlotte. They said they knew each other from Miami, but they were just good friends. So, i'm not sure if you're speaking about the same young lady or not.

to be honest the piece he married was 10x better looking than those trash waitresses he was running around on her with...

I could not agree more about Tiger. He should have stayed single until he was at least 35. Use the Derek Jeter approach.
It also did not help Tiger that he became friends with Barkley and Jordan as a young, married man. I’m pretty certain they were not good role models for marriage and fidelity.
