Akheem Mesidor Becomes Third Cane Taken in First Round; Selected To Chargers

University of Miami defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the 22nd pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft on Thursday night at Acrisure Stadium.

Mesidor became Miami’s 69th first-round selection in program history and third pick of Thursday’s first round, joining Francis Mauigoa (No. 10 overall by the New York Giants) and Rueben Bain Jr. (No. 15 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

I’m a SoFL guy (born, raised and lived all my life) and will also want to see kids in the area succeed in playing sports (and life) at a high level but I’m putting in a special prayer for this dude Mesidor to have a awesome NFL career and become a HOFer This young man is special and deserves to have great things in life.

Note to self: The Canadian better be talking about making a movie/doc of this dude incredible journey…especially if the kid has a very very long and successful NFL career.
