Respectable response. I'm not a Luke Nickel enthusiast(based upon his film). He is serviceable, but his arm strength isn't there and his accuracy doesn't make up for it (in my opinion). Judd is a project, but based upon his high school tape he is a B(at best project). Coleman is two years removed so I doubt it affects him at all, but he is another project. Coleman does have good arm talent though, he is just really small(in terms of height and weight).

The "rating" is irrelevant. How was Cam Ward rated out of high school? The staff obviously values both Nickel and Coleman. Plus I've already explained how Noland is still an attractive prospect. We went after him hard so the staff obviously loved him as well but he made his decision and that decision has consequences. Not saying that I would never the kid or that I don't like him, just that he may have missed his opportunity here.
Nice strawman. I never said a thing about wanting EW, LN and JA over that room plus Noland. The comment was based on my preference of Mateer over Noland. Whether or not Mateer ends up coming here or your opinion that he doesn't come here is irrelevant to my preference of having Mateer over Noland. Of course of would rather add Noland to our QB room in a perfect world. I just don't think the staff is inclined to go in that direction.
The "strawman" I postulated is going to become a reality(in all likelihood) and it is definitely going to be a more likely occurrence then Mateer signing with Miami. In all actuality, my initial postulation is honestly based upon my lack of confidence that Mateer is actually in play. Like I previously stated, Mateer is definitely the better QB RIGHT NOW and he gives Miami the best chance to compete next year, but IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS I think getting Air Noland will ultimately be the better choice. The aforementioned statement is based upon my projection of Air Noland. If we bring him in and he hits we don't have worry about being in this same position next year(most likely). I have 0 confidence in our current QB room(with our current roster around them).
The rating isn't irrelevant when you are speaking about QBs with little to no sample size of starts in college. There is no respectable OC in the country that would tell you that Luke Nickel/Dereon Colemans tape is as good or better than Air Noland's. I'm not even a ratings person(especially with QBs) per se, but in this case the tape matches the rating.
I'm only using the ratings in this case because of the context around this specific player. He is one year removed from high school on the best roster in the country.
If we are down double digits because our db's are getting torched Dawson won't have a choice.
This roster (as currently cunstructed) isn't good enough to play that type of style and compete for the CFBP. If the defense isn't top 10-15 next year we are going to loose 4, 5, or 6 games with Emory at QB.

Exactly. 3 million for Mateer? I would fold up the tent and head home. Just accept next year as a "Down Year" with Cario Mistobal. Save that money. I wouldn't waste it on Noland either. Tua has a stronger arm than he does.
I do think the move is develop guys like Nickel and then pay them the big dollars when they prove it. Unfortunately it appears we're a year behind because Emory and Judd don't inspire confidence.
I think you’re losing the point. I think a lot of people would take Air’s upside over anyone on the roster. I think he has real arm talent.
If we can stop gap and Luke Nickel is that guy after a year of acclimation then we're in a good spot. But yea, even the biggest Emory supporters (I'm a moderate fan) can't believe this is a 10 win team with him.
We are ultimately going to have to roll with a guy that hasn't proven anything. Again, in the immediate sense(the micro) I'd rather have Mateer. But like I said, in the grand scheme of things(macro) I'd rather get Air. Like others have stated, I would love to get both. I just can't see Mateer coming to Miami. To many factors are in OU's favor. On field we are the better choice but he probably has the confidence that he will be successful regardless of where he goes.
In any other "Blue Blood" school I would agree with you. But the way Miami is run, would they put Cario on the hot seat with a 8-4 or even a 7-5 record? He's a part of the Columbus crew. He's one of their own.
