Simmons:
Miami is making a serious run at one of the top committed defensive backs in the country.
Four-star cornerback
Ai’King Hall committed to
Oregon in early April after a trip to Eugene, and at the time, the Ducks appeared to have solid control of the recruitment. Hall loved the campus, connected strongly with
Dan Lanning and bought into Oregon’s track record of developing defensive backs.
But when you are the No. 39 prospect in the
Rivals300, schools do not stop recruiting you.
Miami never backed off.
The Hurricanes have made Hall a major priority this spring, and sources around the recruitment say
Mario Cristobal’s program continues gaining momentum.
Hall, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound standout out of Dothan(Ala.), is in Coral Gables this weekend, and there is significant buzz surrounding Miami.
The Hurricanes have attacked this recruitment aggressively.
Miami coaches made multiple trips to Dothan throughout the spring to spend time with Hall, meet with his family and lay out a plan for his future in the defense. The staff has remained consistent with communication and made it clear just how important Hall is to the class.
That message has resonated.
Location is only helping Miami’s push. They have also talked extensively about early playing time and how Hall could fit alongside recent Miami defensive back additions, including
Georgia flip
Donte Wright.
Hall remains committed to Oregon, but momentum has clearly shifted toward Miami over the last several weeks.
It has shifted enough for me to change my prediction. I previously logged a prediction for Oregon before Hall announced his commitment. Given how this recruitment has shifted recently, I’m now moving that pick to Miami.
