SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Four-star wide receiver Ahmmon Richards was committed to Miami at one time and now new UM head coach Mark Richt is pushing to get him back in the class.

Richards says he hears from coach Richt multiple times a week on social media.

“He messages me once every two days or so,” Richards said. “I talk to him quite often. He asks me about my family and stuff. He tells me that he wants me. He doesn’t really sugarcoat it.”

Richards decommitted from Miami after the Hurricanes fired coach Al Golden in October. He admits he was pleased with the hiring of Richt and that the Hurricanes became a school he was seriously interested in again.

“I was surprised because I didn’t think Georgia would let him go,” Richards said. “When Miami hired him, that was huge. What he did at Georgia, going to Miami now, I feel like it is going to be good for the program.”

One factor that Miami has going for them is their close proximity to Richards’ home in Palm Beach County. Richards admits that his mother, at one point during the recruiting process, favored Miami heavily because of the close proximity to home.

“I would say it helps, but I don’t have a problem with leaving,” Richards said of Miami being close to home. “At first, my mom wanted me to stay close to home, but then she realized how big of a decision it is and it can’t be based off her feelings. She has just told me that I have to do what is best for me.”

Richards plans to take his official visit to Miami on January 15th. He discussed what he is looking to experience while on that visit.

“I just want to hang out with the players more and be around the area,” Richards said. “I want to listen to coach Richt and get to know him more personally. [My decision] will be about if I can see myself at that school outside of football. I would say it is about where I feel at home and comfortable. Where I can go and be myself.”

Richards plans to visit Alabama on January 22nd and Tennessee on January 29th. He already took an official visit to Auburn in November. Richards says it is Miami, Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn who are all showing him the heaviest interest at this point.

Richards is rated a four-star wide receiver prospect by 247Sports.com. He ranks as the No. 113 overall player in the country.

didn't expect richards to turn into one of those recruits that shop themselves around but it kinda sounds like it

He's coming here. He has bonds with the other commits and no bonds with any other players at the other teams after him. He was basically hinting at the fact that he's going to come to Miami because he can see himself here.

Agree with this he started off not acting like the other south Florida primas, but he eventually fell victim to it:

Nah...not his fault the coach he committed to got fired. He SHOULD be looking at options.

I agree that its okay for him to be looking at his options, but I personally think that he used the Golden firing as an excuse to decommit. Simply for the reasons he stated as far as he felt kind of pressured by his mom. Before Golden was fired he had already shown that he was not fully set on UM, it was just a matter of time before he would've decommitted. The CMR hire actually puts us in a better position if you ask me than if Golden stayed. He's in a pretty good position right now but it wouldn't hurt to stay home a little longer. Because what he can obtain from UM in the end can get him anywhere he wants to go thereafter.

Not to mention the best college diploma in the State of Florida...

He would come here and be right behind Coley and Cager on the depth chart and possibly overtake Cager.

We have Berrios, Lewis, and hopefully Bruce and Mullins in the slot and that's about it.

He belongs at Miami

Cager is an absolute stud.

Don't short change him.

People keep talking about Coley, but Cager has some serious potential on him his **** self.

Recently, we've had big receivers that play small and that isn't the case with Cager. He has some little guy attributes where it counts, but he aggressively attacks the football and high points. He gets stronger, shaves a tenth or two off his 40, and we're going to have a major weapon on our hands. I could CERTAINLY get with 11 personnel looking like...

X - Richards
Z - Cager
Y - Bruce/Berrios
TE - Njoku
