This feels like Duke just trying to ***** us over for spring.

I don't understand why Lucas could enroll in another school but Mensah cannot.

If players want to leave, let them leave. That is the cleanest way to do it and I'm glad Mario operates this way. The easiest fix to this, without collective bargaining and/or making athletes employees of these institutions is to not allow contracts to be enforceable until the transfer portal is closed. It has to be all 1 year deals because there's no way to hold anyone to a multi year deal attached to voluntary enrollment at a school that they can leave at any time. Or the enforcement of eligibility after transferring being limited to 1 time and/or sitting out years. That's the only avenue to slow it down and enforce anything.

If they enforce this and make him stay at the school, he could collect $4M and go out there and throw 15 interceptions in a row on purpose. If someone doesn't want to be somewhere, it does no one any good in trying to force it.

No way they can make him stay. As I said, this is about $, not Mensah playing for Duke.

It can be about money all they want it to be. I'm sure they haven't paid him any of or very little of the $4M yet so just cancel the rest and buyout/payback whats been paid. Surely it's monthly or quarterly. Maybe $1M at most or as little as $350k.

If they paid up front, they're pretty stupid.

When he's entered into the portal tomorrow, he can enroll the next day... stress free.

If they don't enter him, he will have to go the admissions route and unenroll at Duke and enroll at Miami vs doing it via the NCAA portal/clearinghouse (The X Lucas path)

This February stuff is going to get shot down so quick.

His lawyer literally said he can't enroll somewhere till after the next hearing?
 
North Carolina courts ruled duke must enter him in portal. They wouldn't do this if there was legal binding contracts that would keep him at duke
 
This really just breaks down to Duke trying to get some more money from NIL. Mensah is Cane and worst case scenario Miami writes Duke a check.
