Most if not all, lost their scholarships so unless have NIL money to pay for a Semester they might be done

The North Carolina income tax rate is 3.99% for 2026. Let's assume that he has $0 in local deductions, that means if he was making $5M per year, he would pay ~$200K in local taxes in NC vs $0 in FL and he is going to pay the same Federal taxes in either state.

Is $200K a lot of money - Yes! How much does it factor into the big picture when we you are making $5M per year and only going to be there one year... particularly when there are other considerations like setting you up for the pros?

I think with the numbers we are talking and the short time frame, that the difference in state taxes between Miami and Duke becomes more of a nice to have perk/bonus vs having any significant weight in the decision - that is how I would look at it anyway.

And $40 of the $200 can now be deducted from the federal so difference is very small. Who gives you the best shot at development, improving your ranking and longer term, having a better shot at NFL contract 2 is the question.
