After the Storm: UVA

The thing I've most admired about Greg Popovich and Bill Belichick is that over the years, they always shaped their system to fit their personnel and the times. What Pop ran with David Robinson and Tim Duncan is NOT what he ran with Duncan Parker and Ginobili. What he ran with an ascending Kawhi is different than both of those.

Belichick's Patriots with a veteran defense protecting a young Brady were different than the 18-1 Patriots with a Brady and Moss aerial assault or the Brady and Gronk Patriots of his later years. **** Vermeil with the Rams was different than **** Vermeil with the Eagles. Tom Coughlin doesn't win 2 SBs in New York if he doesn't change his ways to fit the roster he has.

Those men didn't employ the Phil Jackson "I'm gonna run the Triangle no matter what" philosophy that took the Knicks to even lower depths of depravity and depression or the Golden and D'Onofrio phiLOSSophy we know and hate so well.

To me, it feels like Richt is closer to "stubborn Knicks exec Phil Jackson" than he is to "flexible Popovich/Belichick". And we've seen what that can mean.

The rest of this season and the upcoming offseason should be a come-to-jesus moment for Richt on whether he wants to be a flexible champion or a stubborn has-been. I'm not confident the choice is so clear to him.

Phil Jackson has 11 NBA Championships as a Head Coach. Even drawing vague parallels between him and Richt, is a slap in the face to Phil lol. However, I agree with your sentiment that coaches need to be able to adjust to the current personnel of their respective teams.

Richt wants to be a power running team that pushes people off the ball and simply gaining yards because they are bigger, stronger, and faster than the other team, an offense whose running game opens up easy passes for the QB; the routes that Miami runs are indicative of that.

Huh? That's not even close to what is going on. I wish we were a power running team that emphasized drive blocking and gorgeous I formation permutations out of that physical foundation.

Instead we're a shotgun cupcake zone blocking RPO piece of finesse garbage that allows defenses to attack us.

Yes I think we should fly the banner, but that is if things dont change. We have a bye week and this is the perfect opportunity to make a change, if he doesn't make some changes then you can start flying the banner.

For over two years, I've said again and again - Richt has no feel for the game. No intuition.

Same dumb crap - over and over and over.

He's gotta go -

West End Zone is getting it together for the banners.

He just **** his nest. Dumbass.

Richt is going to be. The cause of his own downfall. The crazy part is we are aggressive to the point of being too aggressive on defense and yet this offense is more conservative and one dimensional than Patrick Nix’s offense.

RIcht will get 5 years here to do something. He needs to change up his offense to a spread that passes to open up the run with his current players .

I thought we knew that Richt hasn't done anything relevant in college football since before Bama hired Saban?

Great job Stefan! You hit the nail on the head. We all know how it turned out before and I think it's going to turn out the same way. Richt is a good man, but arrogant to a fault. Just ask any UGA fan. I think part of why he came here is because he knew he could dictate his terms and run rough shod over the administration. In other words, what happened to him at UGA would not happen here. And unfortunately he is right. There is zero incentive for him to change or look himself in the mirror. He can be mediocre here and everyone outside Miami will side with him and blame the fans for unrealistic expectations. He is here until 2023 unless he doesn't want to be. And, he will make no changes unless he does some serious soul searching and decides if he still actually wants to win and wants to end his career with a National Title, not just collect a paycheck and end his career on his terms with no interference from the administration, fans, and former players. Lets hope he can find some humility and understand this is about more than just him.

Man i couldn't get myself on thesthese boards. So freaking depressing. I gave No D and Golden 1 year, free, make excuses. After Golden second year where Morris was throwing for 500 yards a game and we still couldn't stop anyone, i was done with No D. Golden offenses were fine, they couldnt win games because he refuse to fire his besty.

Now to Richt. He was a HC at UGA, major college program, not temple. When he came the problems were on the defensive side of the ball. In 2 and half years Diaz has us with the #1 defense. The offensive problems have been created by Mark Richt, not the QB, not the OL. Mark Richt. We cannot run the ball against anyone, i mean anyone thats a power 5 team. Its simply inexcusable. Im done defending Richt. He needs to get rid of Brown who have never OC before that i know of. Get a experienced or innovative OC. After this season is over. If he doesn't and doubles down, its gonna go south for him real quick. And i will accept its time for him to go like Golden before him.

Felt like I was reading the times. Grade A reporting Stefan. Can this be pinned so IF we win the next 2-3 games (because we do simply have superior talent) people realize it’s mostly just smoke and mirrors and not Richt or the team “figuring it out” or “coming together as a unit”
