ADIDAS VS NIKE

Another case of "People just not getting the overall concept". Do you understand WHY Miami out of all the schools in the Adidas stable got those uniforms? The Parley program was done to not only emphasize the concept of recycling, it was something designed to be tied in with the Rosenstiel School. The program got a ton of press and it served as a fundraiser for the school itself(The game worn jerseys were auctioned, and Adidas made a significant donation to Rosenstiel)

Recycled materials were used for the uniforms, but contrary to popular belief, it wasn't typical household garbage. It was fishing nets, and other material that could be recycled into performance wear.
Cool.

They look like actual garbage despite what they are made from.

I think the ultra boosts are always nice but then I see the shoes they give UM and they are those basic *** large logo adidas shoes lol why aren’t they getting custom boosts with UM colors and logos
They used to be better, recent year models have slipped downhill. Recently got new balances after having ultras for years and they’re great and also cooler now lol.

What a load of bull**** lies.

The parley jerseys were NOT NOT NOT done as some sort of special deal with RSMAS. adidas has been doing parley jerseys for various world soccer teams FOR YEARS. Had nothing to do wtih RSMAS. More importantantly, we haven't done a parley jersey since, though we continue to do "Miami nights jerseys", presumably to be tied in to our School of the Paranormal?

Give me a break. This after-the-fact nonsense about how the parleys were some big marine science promo is just bull****.

For the love of god, please just stop lying in your "defense" of adidas.

It won't. This board overestimates how cheap our fanbase is and has always been. Even when times are great, our fanbase cheaps out on merch, especially compared to peer institutions.

Heere we go again with the "Miami has a cheap fanbase" lies. Which is simply not true.

And it CERTAINLY does NOT justify going with the #2 merch company.

Right? I love how people (our own fans!) just throw this out, with no figures to back it up.
Simple reasoning and decades of observation bears it out. That's why. Nike knew full well how much merch Miami sells(or doesn't), hence why they were comfortable with the crap deal they put out. It's easy to play the "You could POSSIBLY make this much" game when you know full well that unless Miami goes on a major league run, the merch won't sell and you'll never have to worry about shelling out that money. I don't blame Nike for trying, corporations are going to do what corporations do.

They would have looked like whatever, no matter which material was used. It was an alternate that was worn once, that no one liked. Whether it was recycled fishing nets, or the best fabric on the face of the earth, it wasn't a design people liked. When you take chances, you run the risk of them not being popular. Then again, I remember there being some pushback when the old 2000-2004 nike templates came out. A lot of people said that they looked like halfassed Broncos jerseys, especially with the side panels.

A number of posters seem to actually like the Nike uniforms circa 2000-2013. I don't get that, but to each their own.

The people who run the program don't seem to agree since we've gone back to our dynasty era classic look and won't be doing the Nike looks anytime soon it appears.

For folks who prefer the Nike aesthetics, why do you think the program doesn't want us to wear those looks anymore?

Would you prefer dropping the classic look for the Nike 2000-2013 look?

Again, you are a complete idiot, someone who makes such bad posts that it is incredibly easy to tear them apart.

This "decades of observation" nonsense was based on AllCanes being the primary outlet for UM merchandise. SINCE BETA BLAKE SABOTAGED THE NIKE DEAL AND AWARDED THE UM MERCH CONTRACT TO adidas, several things have changed.

1. The Follett takeover of the UM Bookstore, devoting the ENTIRE GROUND FLOOR to UM merchandise.
2. The opening of CanesWear in Broward County.
3. The rise and hegemony of Rivals.com and their takeover of many game-day physical outlets and online websites as well (including Lids).

These three factors have massively increased the availability of UM merchandise year-round, and regardless of in-person shopping.

The nonsense about "Nike knowing full well how much merch Miami sells" is another convenient lie that is told, particularly since UM was a TOP TEN university brand in the late1980s, the entirety of the 1990s, and the early 2000s. The reality is that Nike knew what Rivals was building and saw a future where "brick-and-mortar" selling would decline a bit, and online selling would take on a larger and larger percentage each year.

But these lies about "cheap Miami fans" have got to stop, particularly when we were a top 10 merch seller for over two decades.

Another lie that gets repeated over and over and over again.

Miami will not, repeat NOT, revisit any of the 2004-2013 jerseys, not even for throwbacks, as we won zero conference or national championships in those jerseys.

Will I be happy to see throwback 2000-2003 jerseys? Yes, though those would not be our primaries with Nike.

It is a false comparison, invented by adidas fanboys, that we have to "choose" between "classic adidas" that we currently wear and some bugaboo Nike jerseys from 2004-2013, which we are never going to wear again.

Nike has made "classic" jerseys for Miami (pre-2000) and more creative designs as well (2000-beyond). It's not "one or the other". Whatever Mario and the team decide to wear, I'm fine with that.

But we absolutely need to switch back to Nike.

A sincerely asked question (promise) asking the question of whether posters who liked the Nike 2000-2013 uniforms would like to go back to those uniforms is a...lie? LOL

You're the best.

I had a fleeting thought that Herbstreits comment before the game Saturday was another called shot (just like in 2021) setup by a mole to get us off of adidas.

I’m a dreamer though

First of all, most of the fanbase likes the 2000s look. Second, yes Nike obviously designed them and we were fine it with.

Third, Miami definitely failed to tell them F off. Given that, why do you keep blaming Nike and not Miami? Adidas literally did the same thing until we didn’t fail to finally tell them to F off.

Why did Adidas ever think the feathers were a good idea? What about the uniforms made of literal trash? Why did they ever think the baby **** green military uniforms were a good idea? Why did they ever think the strawberry jerseys were a good idea?

Both companies have come up with garbage designs. The difference is Nike is years ahead of them in their MATERIALS and CONSTRUCTION and FIT.

So, if we all agree that Miami has the power to dictate what designs it wants, then why would you continue to go with the company who literally uses Nike templates from the 2000s? This company couldn’t even get the U on the collar correct until a few years ago. The name plates are from high school.

I hope we stay with the classic forever. Like you, I think it’s the best and represents our brand the best. However, I think Nike is the better company and is more than capable of making us a classic jersey with the best materials and construction.

We're not that far apart. We both prefer our classic look. Happily so does the entire program these days including our apparently long term coach/former player, so I'm cool.

I just think Nike is more culpable for the 2000-2014 uniform crimes than you. Sure UM was culpable. But Nike wasn't an innocent bystander.

In the final analysis I don't care if Nike, Adidas or Sketchers makes our uniforms. UM should look like UM on the field.
