ADIDAS VS NIKE

Whatever the quarrel with Adidas, they bailed us out from all the years of Nike's trash uniforms.

Our uniforms stopped looking like the U shortly after Nike took over. And we stopped playing like the U. The two are connected. When our look became indistinguishable from Florida A&M or Pompano Ely HS, our program took a dive. We lost our identity.

We went into decline playing in the Nike uniforms. We didn't look like the U. Now we're now coming back playing in our classic dynasty era uniforms from Adidas. And we're starting to look like the U again on the field as well.

Not only did our uniform graphic design become completely detached from our brand when Nike took over, so did the colors. SoFl is about tropical and vivid colors. SoFl is not Soylent green and rustbelt orange, which is what Nike came up with for some inexplicable reason.

Adidas year one uniforms were a miss. But then they got it right. Whereas every single year of Nike uniforms was a miss once they moved away from our classic look early on. Nike never got it right.

I don't particularly care about Adidas. If folks want to pick apart Adidas, go for it. But to this fan at least, Nike failed us moreso than any apparel company in our history and should be at the bottom of any list to do our uniforms in the future. Nike got everything wrong and nothing right.
Why do so many people have trouble understanding that the school is who allows what designs we run.

We didn’t go back to the classic because of Adidas. We went back to the classic because that’s what Richt wanted and we have stayed with them because of Mario.

I guess Alabama, LSU, UF, etc. just got lucky that Nike never did anything to their design.

You think UM reached out to Nike in 2000 and asked them to design us the most non-UM, off brand, ridiculous uniforms in school history?

Nike designed that ****. Do you think those were good uniforms for us? They were ***.

Maybe UM failed to tell Nike to F off. But why did Nike ever think these were good uniforms for UM?

Adidas blew it from 2015-2017.

Nike blew it from 2000-2014

14 yrs > 3 yrs

But sure these 2014 uniforms were awesome!

The Nike Y2K uniforms are the best in CFB history.

Not even from a fan perspective. The aesthetics are perfect.

The pant side stripe connecting to the jersey side stripe, which was an extension of the front and back pin-striping coming together in the jersey sleeves.

Colored deep-V collar design beveled off of the pin stripe.

No other uniform ever since has been so comprehensively designed for any program at any level.

The only reason Adidas didn't get the chance to blow it for even longer with the uniforms is because Richt had to step in and tell them to get those unsightly uniforms outta there forever. The "throwbacks" that Miami wears on a weekly basis were never intended to be regular unis. They fell *** backwards into a look that the fans wouldn't complain about.

I liked the 2014 uniforms, but I like different stuff. And the players clearly liked it too, which should count for a lot.

It seems we both agree that that the Nike uniforms "blew it".

The only question is whether Adidas returned us to our on-brand look of their own volition or whether it took Richt to force them. But at least we're now back to our classic look.

Bottom line remains though: Nike uniforms blew it. Adidas uniforms now have it right, however it came to pass

Well reasoned response. I disagree that the Y2k unis were good design. But you think so and you're certainly entitled to that opinion.

It still leaves the question of whether the uniforms of college football teams should be consistent with and reinforce the brand. Our current Adidas uniforms are consistent with and reinforce our dynasty era brand. I don't see how the Y2k uniforms did so.

None of Ala, FL, FSU, OSU, USC, TX, UGA, PSU, LSU, etc, etc, etc have changed their basic look. Those uniforms are immediately associated with their schools. Our Nike uniforms were not related to or identifiable with UM. They were just a bunch of random designs.

Give me those Pro Combat unis from the first set. I’m not sure how cool they were but we were in a pretty elite set of teams to get them. I remember the West Virginia ones were dope too. That whole capsule concept from t-shirts to cleats was a slick campaign.

First of all, most of the fanbase likes the 2000s look. Second, yes Nike obviously designed them and we were fine it with.

Third, Miami definitely failed to tell them F off. Given that, why do you keep blaming Nike and not Miami? Adidas literally did the same thing until we didn’t fail to finally tell them to F off.

Why did Adidas ever think the feathers were a good idea? What about the uniforms made of literal trash? Why did they ever think the baby **** green military uniforms were a good idea? Why did they ever think the strawberry jerseys were a good idea?

Both companies have come up with garbage designs. The difference is Nike is years ahead of them in their MATERIALS and CONSTRUCTION and FIT.

So, if we all agree that Miami has the power to dictate what designs it wants, then why would you continue to go with the company who literally uses Nike templates from the 2000s? This company couldn’t even get the U on the collar correct until a few years ago. The name plates are from high school.

I hope we stay with the classic forever. Like you, I think it’s the best and represents our brand the best. However, I think Nike is the better company and is more than capable of making us a classic jersey with the best materials and construction.
