Adarius Hayes

I (350z) was tboned by a speeding suv once. I was making a left at a light and it had turned red, so I assumed the car was going to stop, but instead the booked it. Smashed right into my passenger side. Cops gave me the ticket and placed the fault on me. The scariest part was how that side of the car collapsed in to me. If I had a passenger that day, they would be dead for sure.

All to say, if that kia made a direct I pact to the passenger doors, man there is such little protection there. Idek know the exact mechanics of seatbelts, but if the side of the car collapses due to sheer force impact, I can see how that seatbelt (if they even had one) would fail.

By all accounts, Adarius seems like a good kid. But like MANY young men, they speed. I'm sure most of us are guilty of speeding at one point in our lives.

So just a really unfortunate event all around. Life is like that sometimes.

For better or worse, we will likely learn how fast Hayes was driving as pretty much every new car has a “black box” which records certain things like sudden deceleration, and provides the police with the speed just before deceleration.

Excess speed is a factor in determining criminal charges if it rises to the level of reckless driving by virtue of the speed. Yes, speed alone can constitute reckless driving, even without any other factors like swerving. And on the flip side, making a left hand turn and being hit by another car can also be a criminal charge. This will likely be a very complicated situation in both criminal and civil contexts. I don’t envy the prosecutors.
This may take years to completely sort through.

Cancer and car accidents. Wish we could eradicate them both. Maybe AI and other related technologies can get us there one day. I like to be in control of things but if self drive vehicles can even eliminate 30% fatalities on the road, I am all for it. Just horrible man.

Not just young men. My daughter was a terror when she started driving and for a few years after.
Got a call from a neighbor who’s a retired FHP Captain. She was racing a friend in our neighborhood (30mph). She claimed she wasn’t going that fast but I had put a Bouncie on the OBDII.
I pulled out my phone and pointed out she was going 75mph at one point and 78mph at another.
Took her keys and told her to enjoy the bus to high school the next two months.
Didn’t sink in though, clocked her at 98mph on SR-60 several months later. 🙄
Thank god she’s car-less going to college at the University of Glasgow (Scotland) now.

Calling on the hundreds and hundreds of accident attorneys we have here.

Let’s just say a complete hypothetical, he was found to be doing 80 MPH in a 40 MPH zone. The Kia is found to have turned directly into his right of way.

Will they really charge and try to bring him to trial on a vehicular manslaughter charge? Negligent vehicular homicide? Assuming zero drugs or alcohol are in play either. At the end of the day, it is an accident. I genuinely don’t know either way, obviously doing 80 in a 40 is negligent but they did turn in front of him.

Just wondering legally how that works.

I would suppose when you are turning you assume the other car is going around the speed limit, not 2X the speed limit and thus the attempt to turn may have looked reasonable but that was without knowing the other car was moving that fast. Not sure how the law will come down on him but 2 lives were lost and football is the last thing anyone should be thinking about, least of all him.

Looks like we got something in common with UGA after all.......

Jesus this is terrible. Not a great time for my first post but......man, awful.

george costanza swing and a miss GIF

So after reading about this tragedy your first thought was to post something defending UGA?
No, my first thought was that when young people lose their lives in these tragic accidents, the go-to response on this message board is to make some lame joke.

at fault in car accidents is determined by insurance companies. They inform the state authorities

How does a 4 year old get ejected? Was he not in car seat strapped in ?!? If not that parent needs jail time rip very sad
And so does Hayes...going 80 mph and increasing his speed in a 40-mph zone with a warning sign is beyond reckless. Unfortunately, as with most accidents, there are several causes or contributing factors that lead to the accident. No matter who is to blame, 2 innocent, young children lost their lives for nothing...so sad. RIP

You’re a ******* joke. Gtfoh

Two little kids died. Lives are ruined on all sides, regardless of or in spite of who is to blame and that is what you think you want to post out here. I swear to God I don’t really understand people sometimes.
Yeah I agree with you, but that’s what our fans do when players on other teams have been in the same predicament.

heartbreaking all around. Just want to add that turning left in front of the other lane traffic needs more attention brought to it. I understand you cannot assume someone is going 80 when you are turning left. But I will have people honk at me at flashing yellows because I refuse to take a chance turning left if I do not have clear vision and know for a 100 percent fact it is a safe left turn. I truly believe we need more rigorous driving courses. Some of the driving mistakes I see every day are truly frightening. Praying for a higher power to give the family of AD and those kids strength during this time.

I’m not an attorney BUT I would believe it matters how those kids were strapped in. All the cases I’ve been supeona’d to had that as an arguing point.

Not speaking AH, hope he is just ok, but I highly doubt someone's career would be over for this, unless other factors were involved. The person making the left is the cause of the accident, FLA is comparative negligence state so if speeding was a factor the driver speeding would be at fault 10%-30% max for the accident.
Still means Morgan and Morgan will sue, but doubt any criminal charges
Wow, can you be any more in sensitive? Who cares about AD's career right now? He was involved in an accident that just killed 2 children.

I’m wondering if the driver of the Kia froze when he realized that the SUV he was turning in front of was speeding at him.

I’m assuming he saw the SUV down the street several hundred ft at least as he started to make his turn and thought he had time to make the turn but when he realized he might not make it his first inclination was to hit the breaks instead of the gas pedal that would have sped up his car to finish his turn which left him in the middle of street setting him up to be hit.Not trying to assign blame to anyone just curious.

This is a terrible situation which I hope no one ever has to go through and there is no circumstance where small children should die no matter the fault.
