No alpha is being hired given the direction shalala pushed us for a decade and a half. We’re a woke university where that type of mindset is severely frowned upon and will get you cancelled quick
Woke my ***, they simply don't care about sports. Stanford and USC are from those so called woke places. They care about winning more than we do. We probably should be woke, more like sleep walking kn a coma

9.7 MILLION BUYOUT FOR KIRBY HOCUTT???? I chose the wrong profession lol

Not really a buyout, it's the "payout". The payout is what the SCHOOL owes if they fire the AD, and is usually higher at the beginning of a contract. A buyout is what the AD owes if he/she quits and takes another job.

I'd be willing to bet that most of the guys with the highest "payout" have most recently signed big extensions.

This part is more relevant:

Kirby still stands out, though he has one of the longest tenures in Power 5.

Give Mack Rhoades the keys to the city, a mansion on the water, a boat, a yacht, a plane (Da plane), a cartel if he wants one, an open checkbook, first born child, etc... Make him President. Make Miami Great Again.

Thanks for the clarification. Still insane. It drives me up a wall especially when that money is primarily being made off the backs of black kids from underprivileged backgrounds. A high coach salary makes sense because there's a direct and transparent correlation with on field success but 1.8 million for an AD at a school like Texas Tech that hasn't won much of anything? Maybe if he's bringing in far more than that to justify his salary. I just don't see it.

Kirby Hocutt is mind boggling. He was terrible here, and then Texas Tech has fallen off from Mike Leach's highs, lost a premier basketball coach to UT, and watched their conference dissolve in the process.

Yeah, I don't know exactly what to say there.

On one hand, they are responsible for $100-million-plus budgets and are one of the highest profile jobs at any university. On the other hand, yes, almost Athletic Department employee is paid far more than the players were ever paid (pre-NIL).

I am completely in favor of a hard-cap on coaching salaries. No evasion using non-profits or shoe contracts or local-TV-contracts.

These AD's are CEOs, they are not the traditional AD like we knew 20 years ago.

These schools are run like corporations putting out the cheapest possible product while maximizing profits. Why does Texas AD have a job...because he is making billion dollar TV deals and they do not even have to win a game.

BJ and Miami Admin are happy sitting in the middle of the coastal so long as the ACC checks earned off the back of Clemson and the once good FSU keep coming. The only way they make a change, head coach, AD or otherwise, is if the bottom line is threatened.

our athletic director is literally a salesman. what he does best is sell tickets and merchandise. thats it.

does he know what a successful athletic program looks like? no. does he know what a successful coach in sports needs? no.

and that disqualifies him. he does exactly what the board wants, bringing them money. however, thats where the story ends. and even the board seemingly has had enough, considering baseball and basketball are doing awfully bad while football is once again at a crossroads.

i hope carol soffer bails us out. her name is on the indoor facility. i doubt she wants her name to be associated with a terrible football program.
We arent terrible, just mediocre.

I saw this posted online and figured I’d share. We all want Blake James gone. If that scenario were to ever play out this article does a good job summarizing the market

Wouldn't have to pay that for AH. He'd get a nice salary for sure, but my thinking is he'd take a mid level AD salary to come to his Alma mater. Run it like a pro team. If CMD doesn't like it, well, we're sorry coach...you have Miami where we're capable talent wise of being and you have nothing to worry about...just my 2 cents.

Holcutt is the Bernie Madoff of the Atheltic Director game. Good Lord, you must love a sinning grifter to reward such a nonproductive vagrant!
