Watching the first round of the ACC tourny and its really starting to sink in why the ACC is so bad right now - the conference lost all its good coaches

NC State - Hasn't been the same since Mark Gottfried got fired (not that he was an especially good coach, but he was an amazingly successful recruiter, even if he was cheating more than Belichick)
Pitt - Decided they were too good for Jamie Dixon. Turns out they very weren't
Louisville - Dumping Pitino completely devastated them
Syracuse - Nobody wants to play for Jim's cranky old *** anymore, especially when he's playing his deadbeat kids 80 minutes a night at the expense of better players
VTech - Hasn't really recovered from Buzz Williams leaving
UNC - Doesn't look the same without Roy
Now K's leaving on top of it

Meanwhile, Clemson and GTech have longtime coaches who never win anything, and BC's been staring at a wall eating Elmer's glue for an entire decade.

FSU and UVA are the only 2 remaining teams with top tier coaches. This conference's outlook is pretty bleak going forward tbh.

Agreed completely. Now is the time for Miami to capitalize.

Well, GT did win the ACC Tourney last year. But ... spot on analysis.

Clemson could be a really good program given their location but they refuse to move on from Brownell. I'd put Pitt in that bucket as well but their hires post Dixon have been atrocious. Did not expect the Keats hire to go this poorly at NC State.

I do think VT and Wake have upside with their current coaches and Louisville will be back as well with the right hire.

Not sure about Forbes in particular; this year's Wake team kinda feels like a 6 in a room full of 3s. As I said in the other thread, Williams and LaRavia were decidedly mediocre at their former schools, but looked like stars once they transferred to the ACC.

Optimists will say that means Forbes is a good coach that got the most out of them. Eternal pessimists like me will say that just means the ACC sucks.

Eh.. with Cuse I think the problem is his kids are his best players.

Wonder what Capel's contract at Pitt looks like? They can't be happy with what he's done.

Be interesting to see who Louisville gets to coach there. In basketball-rich KY, and with their tradition, that should always be a good program.
