ACC Refs at it again

And the answer is: Beat the snot out of teams like we've done... and like we used to do... and then it doesn't matter.

Still love the UT Cotton Bowl. Like a 1000 yards in penalties and we still slaughtered them. I could have sworn Denis mouthed "Fu.. you, we'll beat the crap out of them anyway" after one call.

UGA fans have a great Cotton Bowl memory as well-- "What time is it? It is always 10 to 9 in Texas"

The only reason I mention it here is that it was the 1983 season, and Texas was ranked #2 . Georgia squeaked by Texas 10-9 (in a brutal game to watch), then #4 Illinois choked in the Rose Bowl, getting blown out 45-9 by a 6-4-1 UCLA team that had already lost to both Georgia and Nebraska.

This opened the door for #5 Miami to have a path to the national championship if they could beat Nebraska in the OB, and Miami knew that before kickoff.

And Auburn is *still* *****ing about the final poll...

Yeap. Maybe we will owe UGA another thank you. Remember the next year we opened against Auburn, who thought they should have been champs. After game their coach, Pat Dye I think, had one of my favorite quotes "Miami had some menfolk out there tonight!"

My favorite road game of all time.
It was one one the loudest stadiums I was ever in...during pre-game.

Took a long time for UT to recover from that destruction and recovery did not last long. The Southwest Conference did not last much loner. There were other reasons, but Miami laying waste to the Big 8 and Southwest Conference surely helped with their destruction. We won games, embarrassed fan bases, crushed programs and mortally wounded conferences -- oh and kicked the living crap out of teams. It has been great being a Miami Hurricane. I am old but I am hoping for one more great ride with Mark and getting to see the mighty SEC taken down a couple notches.

Hear hear!

1984 Kickoff Classic at the Meadowlands.
Bo Jackson was held in check.
Jimmy's first game out of the gate and he beats a #1 .

Then we took out gator with last minute drive when they thought they had won. Still see Charlie Pell yelling at his players to put him down as they carried him off field --- Bernie was showing exactly what would have happened had NE scored that two point conversion by walking us downfield for last second score. Good start to a ultimately disappointing season.

We think alike.
Both defenses were gassed at the end of the game.
If NU got the 2 point conversion, Bernie had 47 seconds and 2 time outs to score.
It would have made the greatest football game of all time even better.

I was at that game and sat behind Irving Fryer's parents... I assume as the lady had a ''Fryer's Mom" Nebraska shirt on with all kinds of Fryer **** going on and actually told me she was his mother. I was close to the end zone where they went for 2. It was the most exhilarating sports moment in my life.

While Tom Osbourne ran an old school system, I always respected him for being a man and going for 2 unlike that pathetic weasel Lou Holtz at Notre Shame. Had Osbourne kicked the PAT and held Miami, I think that they might have won the National Championship.

Bernie has always insisted that he would have scored. That kid had ice in his veins that night, so I have no doubt. I had ton a money on that game -- no points win 3-1 odds -- so I am happy it ended without the need for us to score. We were living in Bal Harbour at the time and a bus load of Cornhusker fans were at the hotel across the street. My bets were all with them(even sold them my four tickets and bet the cash). Manager held the bets. After the game I was there to collect when they came back. They hated losing but were very gracious and also readily agreed it was the greatest game ever -- they had been is some. They were much nicer back then. I bought a couple rounds for all of them( 3-1 made one heck of a take) and we actually had a great time. Seriously, their two comebacks in that game made it the greatest game; otherwise it was just another big upset.

Tom had class back then that he lost when he didn't want us to run through the smoke the next OB he was in. Still think Bernie takes us down to a last second anyway. Didn't we make last minute field goal in Tally that season to get to the OB game? Please note that you can kick a winning filed goal in a Miami v FSU game as long as you'll not a nole kicker.
