I see posts year after year about recruiting DEs and pash rushers. Pass rushers don't matter if the Qb is not getting pressure in his face. Athletic DTs are the key to pressuring the Qb in modern era of college football. Clemson figured it out. In the age of Spread offenses you have to make the Qb escape the pocket or adjust in the pocket. Arizona State is the number two scoring defense in the nation right now because they are stout at the point of attack and play great coverage. The glory days of Miami defenses was about DTs not DEs. Hopefully the kids we got from Jersey can help with that. Until we can get consistent pressure inside elite DE talent won't matter. Not to mention stopping the run and keeping the Lbs clean.

i think the defensive tackles we got this past recruiting class all have the chance to be stars. I mean these kids are running like tight ends at 280+. Watch the end of the game this Saturday and keep an eye on them. They have bright bright futures.

this is more than a theory. It's a fact. Even when you look at the pass three years for the U.

I keep saying Ford is better than Bethel but he's no Willis or McIntosh. Hopefully Netsa is that guy that collapses the pocket or demands a double. DT & Secondary are the keys to our turnover happy D.

... played MSU, Kent State and Sacramento.

Not disagreeing with your overall pointpoint, but ASU is not the team to use as example.

We had DTs that were disruptive against the pass, but we got gashed in the run against good P5 teams in the last couple of years. Obviuosly there's a balance, but our DTs are fine to the level of competition our schedule offers this year. Our secondary(scheme?) being suspect and DEs disappointing are bigger problems right now.

I don't disagree. It's also true we run so many stunts and games upfront that a Jon Garvin won't see his sack total potential in this scheme. This isnt just Blake as en vogue as that is. If you've been paying attention the last 3 years, Manny did the same. Joe Jackson for example had his best sack numbers as a freshman and never got above that number. Not saying right or wrong, it's just the scheme we employ.

Everyone in the NFL wanted the next Warren Sapp. And no one played the Tampa 2 or whatever you want to call it as well as the Bucs did because no one could find another Sapp.

Hopefully Nesta can do some disrupting at tackle when he gets back.

we focus on our DEs because we have better luck recruiting high end DEs then DTs
in life I noticed ppl in general tend to up value things they have or can get and down value things that they can not get

Not claiming they are all world. The point is a Pac 12 team beat Michigan State a Big 10 team at the point of attack in there house. They won by controlling the line of scrimmage. You laugh but we couldn't beat either team right now.

I think Bethel has outplayed ford thus far

Hmm... both have been so close, so far. I mean Ford is better than Bethel was at this point in his career, so I am assuming Ford will eventually surpass Bethel. I could be wrong though, I'm just a guy with opinions.

Committing your 4 DL to rushing the passer also helps. We play lots of spy and contain style D this year with our linemen

1st 2 games we also played against an inaccurate qb and a freshman qb who could also use their legs to make plays. Probably was intentional to keep them in the pocket and force them to throw to beat you.

I got news for you DT's have always been the key to pressuring QB's in the modern and ancient era of football period. Without them the flashy pass rushers on the outside have a tendency to be a day late and a dollar short most of the time.
