The ACC generated more than $578 million in revenue for the 2020-21 fiscal year, a conference record and an increase of more than $80 million from the previous year, federal tax documents show. The conference, which had its schools schedule 11 football games during the COVID-19-impacted 2020 season, did not suffer the same kind of pandemic-induced financial hits that other conferences experienced during that time period, according to the league’s Form 990, which was obtained by The Athletic.

Schools received an average distribution of $36.1 million per institution, according to the conference, which is a 16 percent increase from the previous year.

Notre Dame, which was a full member of the ACC in football in 2020 and shared its home game rights on NBC with the rest of the conference, was paid an equal share of $34,889,808 from the conference. This was an increase from the $10.8 million that the Fighting Irish received in 2019-20, when they were not a full member in football.

The ACC needs to find its nuts and tell ND to **** or get off the pot. Clemson is starting to slip (and Dabo has been complaining like Saban that NIL is ruining their bag monopoly). FSU is a dumpster fire. UM is honestly the only program in the ACC that looks like it is headed in the right direction. ACC would make a lot of money putting ND on UMs permanent opponent list, assuming the acc goes to a divisionless conference. Frankly, most of the country doesn't care about UM vs FSU anymore, but they will always tune in for "Catholics vs Convicts"

We had the leverage to do so during the Covid season. They NEEDED the ACC to play football. The ACC should have played hardball and forced them to fully join at that time. The ACC dropped the ball.

Unfortunately I expect that they would get off the pot. Or perhaps a more appropriate saying... take their football and go home.

Yup, some of us couldn't believe the acc didn't put the screws to ND. It was the exact opposite, ND got everything it wanted and didnt have to make a single concession. I hate to agree with Finebaum but he was 100% correct saying the ACC has an incompetent commissioner and is a joke of a conference.

The current commissioner was not part of that decision. I think Phillips will be a lot better than Swofford.

I don't think that would be wise, especially since it looks like the NCAA has basically ceded all power to the conferences. Independent teams won't have a seat at the table. NDs only other option would be the Big10, which I suppose makes geographic sense.

I believe Finebaums comments about the conference are recent, so don't think the new Commish has altered that opinion. I am skeptical the new boss will be any different from the old boss. What do you think he will do differently?

I don't think it will be an issue for them until there is a movement either completely away from the NCAA and/or a super league is formed at which point it is highly unlikely they would be turned away if they wanted in. Currently they have out weighted influence (see their influence on the proposed expanded playoffs); the only thing they get by joining the ACC is more money (which they don't seem to need) and in the process they would lose influence.

I think it is silly all of the influence they have, but they do have it, so why would they give that up?

Ahem … I think you meant “Hurricanes vs Hypocrites”

When Phillips took over, he said that the ACC needed to make football priority number one. Unlike Swofford he has no allegiance to the Carolina basketball schools.

Of course ND got an equal share. They had to put their NBC revenue into the pot.

That's not a thing.

They do need to figure a way to get ND in as a full member. The key thing is getting ND to join "voluntarily" instead of forcing their hand. I thought 2020 was the ACC's best shot and they really blew it. However, looking back on it, I think ND would have just taken the year off instead of being forced into joining the ACC as a full member. Do you think ND would join the Grant of Rights agreement to be a full member through 2036 with a take it or leave it offer from the ACC? I don't. I figure they would've taken the one year hit to revenues as money does not seem to have too much effect on them as they have continued to make less than ACC full members (this includes their NBC TV revenue).

It's too bad that college schedules are negotiated so many years in the past. It would have been nice to propose a 5 year deal as a full member to ND in exchange for them playing in 2020. It could have given ND some time to see the world would not end with them as a conference member and they would realize their path to the playoff would be much easier as a conference member with the additional game they would get in the conference championship.

They have made 2 of the last 4 playoffs, do we really think that they would have made more if they were in the ACC the last 4 years? If anything, I think playing in the championship game would have resulted in them getting in the same or likely less.

ND fleeced the ACC.. lol. I honestly don’t want ND in the conference. Hopefully they play zero ACC teams. **** EM

One of those 2 was as a member of the ACC and in the other they had to go undefeated. Being able to play in a 13th game may have helped their cause last year.

They already pretty much have to go undefeated to make the playoff without being in a conference, but with conferences getting rid of divisions to get their 2 best teams playing for the conference championship, it will be even harder for ND. I know the ACC, SEC, and Big 10 have not made the move to no divisions yet, but the writing is on the wall.

I completely forgot about the ACC literally paving the way for Notre Dame to be gifted a rental conference championship and then acting like it was just conveniently scheduled as such. Im so sick of this Coward *** conference just letting them do whatever tf they want.

I still think they need to just create a La Liga format where the 25-30 biggest teams join Brackets and then have a giant tournament. Leverage the big names and media markets to create a super league. **** these stupid conferences

Notre Dame ain't joining the ACC for all sports. Not tomorrow, not next month, not next year, not ever. ND's athletic director laid out the future a couple weeks ago.

"We're getting to a two solar system model here," Jack Swarbrick said. "You have two suns with all the gravitational pull -- the Big Ten and the SEC. People are going to have to figure out how to align with one or the other.”

The media rights deals for the SEC and the Big Ten are going to dwarf what the ACC, Pac-12 and Big 12 receive -- like $40M or more per year. Game-changing money that will widen the gap between those schools receiving it and those that are not.

Sooner or later, the ACC as we've known it is going to unravel.
