Huh? What do you mean Manny never game up 21+ points as a DC under Richt at Miami.

Over 21 points were scored in the following games — 2016 (Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh) ... 2017 (Toledo, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Clemson, Wisconsin) ... 2018 (LSU, Toledo, Florida State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin).

Might've been a few where a defense scored to get over that number—too lazy look it up—but there are at least a dozen games where his defense gave up more than 21 points.

26-13 over those three years. You don't lose 13 games without giving up some points on defense.

great watch, but you can see Richt have some motor skill issues. He also has the "Parkinson's stare", decreased blink frequency.

i wish him the best, he deserves it.
Yea u can see hes not the same guy, I could tell something was off. Dont know much about what he has but u can see something mentally wrong, I remember when he got introduced as HC I thought he was on drugs but it was something else. I knew something was off wasnt sure what it was, we are here now and now we know.

in retrospect, and as explained in this forum, he had many symptoms from the time he got here.

maybe they are enhanced now with the meds. regardless, he advanced the program more than anyone has in 2 decades. He gave us 2017 and Norte Dame. He gave us the indoor facility. And then he gave us a check for $15MM. He's a great human being and man. God Bless him.

Im expecting a surprise pass rush from this dude....think he's going to possibly shock some
He's got a lot less to think about at DE, I'm kinda optimistic he might surprise us. I saw him on multiple plays last year not move for about 2-3 seconds after the ball was snapped.

I seen a couple plays prior seasons when he gets behind the LOS and his pursuit of the QB is pretty fast. At Linebacker his speed is not good and his change of direction is bad....but to rush the QB u really don't need that cause there is so much havoc back there. If he can create pressures and hurries that's what we need.

Facts he's a real good dude. I wanted him fired but that did not shadow his personality. I always know that he is an amazing person regardless.

In Manny's 3 years as DC, we gave up 30+ points seven times.

Those same 3 years (2016 - 2018), Alabama gave up 30+ points six times.

Not apples to apples, we know we played some bad offenses, but I don't understand the flack Manny gets around here for the job he's done as a DC. Makes no sense to me. I've posted probably a dozen threads over the past 5 years with indisputable data, he's one of the better DCs in the country and Miami has had one of the better defenses since he arrived. You can't dispute that.
I actually misread the post I replied to. I thought it implied Miami never gave up more than 21 points in a game when Manny was DC. Obviously, I read and responded too fast. Shame on me.

I don’t believe Manny is a poor DC. His scheme, predicated on disrupting the line of scrimmage and creating negative plays, is fine. Miami hasn‘t had the talent to pull off a great defense. He’s has some good games, and bad ones. There has been solid play from the DL, for the most part. Miami hasn’t had quality linebackers or secondary play.

Play his scheme with the Canes‘ defenders of the mid-80s to mid-90s and they’d still field a great defense.

Like offense, there is no magic scheme that compensates for lack of talent on defense. Especially when playing very good-to-elite offenses. And especially in today’s spread offense era.

Edit: Manny has at times outsmarted himself. Case in point, the game at Pittsbugh, end of 2018. He kept calling DL stunts that left gapping holes for the Pitt QB to pull the ball and run into for solid gains, first downs, and two touchdowns. He wouldn’t adjust. Couldn’t, maybe. One criticism of Manny in media, from ‘anonymous ACC coaches’, was Manny always thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room. Hopefully this is at least no longer true.
