ACC Coaches talk Anonymously 2019 Edition [Athlon]

What they said about Va Tech:

Everyone is talking about this program. Something's not right. This isn't what you sign up for getting Justin Fuente from Memphis and being this many years in with no superstars on offense. You just wonder what's going on there. Why are so many kids transferring out? Especially for a guy who, at least we all think, the players really like. It's really hard to forecast these guys."

"They're thin at quarterback and running back. That's not good. The (Ryan) Willis kid will probably start at QB. They need a true feature back to help him out, and they may not have one."

"They have some good receivers; that's where they're strongest on offense."

"Bud Foster is going to do what Bud does, MENG. It's not about pressures or blitzes, MENG, it's actually about taking the two or three things you do best and stopping that. He's old school. He wants to make you uncomfortable above all else. He wants to make you beat him left-handed. They're really good at winning first down on defense."
(Just my opinion, but I feel like this was a quote from Diaz, no info, just my guess)

"They have some talented players, and they've shown some flashes at times, but you get that feeling that they're moving away from Beamer ball year by year, leaving what made them a famous program."
Definitely Manny.

Why would a Diaz defense be called gimmicky in the first place??

His actual scheme was gimmicky and very flawed... spreading a linebacker out wide to cover like a nickel back was easy to expose especially when that linebacker was Zach McCloud. Thankfully he was willing to adjust immediately after one season by creating the Striker position.

Yes but 50% either left or got kicked off

It's like the recent UF class. They were bragging about their 247 ranking, and then a handful of their most talented commits didn't stick for whatever reason. Meanwhile, we not only have every single one of our commits on the team, we have all our transfers in, too.

Class rankings are only directionally correct and don't mean much until you look at the roster 3 years later to see how many of them amounted to anything at the program.

Remember our 2004 class, #3 in the country? Worst productivity ever. Willie Williams, Lance Leggett, Charlie Jones, Bobby Washington, Kirby Freeman, Tyler McMeans, Lavon Ponder. All 4 and 5 stars. All amounted to nothing. Bleh. Only kid who met expectations out of that class was Calais Campbell.
