ACC announces teams will forfeit games they can't play because of COVID outbreaks

I wonder how forfeits and such will work itself into the rankings and ultimately the BCS. Should be interesting to see how it all pans out.
There’s not going to be any forfeits.

I can only see this happening to a team with like a 10% vaccination rate or lower and I highly doubt any team in the country is around this low of a rate

Per Wiki on how voting/selections are handled:

A team's strength of schedule is one of the most pertinent considerations for the committee in making its selections.[36] Other factors that the committee weighs are conference championships, team records, and head-to-head results,[9] plus other points such as injuries and weather.[37] Unlike the BCS system, the AP Poll, Coaches' Poll, and the Harris Poll, computer rankings are not used to make the selections.[4][20] Advanced statistics and metrics are expected to be submitted to the committee, though like other analytics, they have no formal role in the decision.[38] Committee members are not required to attend games.[35]

We have to assume a P5 with no quality wins would not have a good SoS compared to any SEC team with 10+ wins and the top ACC/B1G teams.

This is the part I am not prepared to assume. O$U's "quality wins" in their 6-game season last year: a 1 score victory over Indiana and a 12-pt win over NW. But they passed "the eye test" and made it in.

What are the COVID rules or requirements a team has to meet each week? Don‘t recall the # what a team travels with but it’s fewer than what the home team dresses. Unless a certain position is decimated by COVID can the walkons and players down the depth chart no fill in? Team at least has a chance by playing the game. Miss St played UGA close (within a TD I believe) last season with around 50 scholarship players.

It would be a shame for any team that makes the playoffs to have to forfeit. Ask NC State in the college World Series. They were 2-0 when they had to forfeit.

You are giving off a powerful odor...it's either "desperation" or "fraud". Or both.

So long as the team is above the threshold for testing multiple times a week, it won't be an issue. Seemed like the major issue last year, not just us but among college football, was the contact tracing.

I would assume the team with the best ranking would get into the CFP. Who cares about the ACC title at that point!

Would be great to have the 12-team playoff this year, then BOTH Miami and Clemson could go to the CFP after the both forfeit the ACC-CG...

I'd prefer an 8 or 16 team playoff. Doubt we will see this for another few years. Now if the bowl revenue tanks again in 2021 due to Covid, I could see them push this for '22 to help make up for lost revenue.

I didn’t read the rules and the bylaws and everything else - are they going to be testing vaccinated players or not?

Whether Miami is 100% or 50% vaccinated.. players can still get covid. Which means we could still potentially have forfeited games depending on vaccinated protocols
Nah, being over 85% vaccination rates excuses the team from being regularly tested. Negative tests are presumed. So being above 85% is a big deal.

It’s a valid question. Breakthrough cases are happening a lot. How does Covid protocols handle these?
Should use same protocols we did last season regardless of jabs. I hope we don’t take a risk of thinking jabbed can’t transmit infections. That’s a recipe for multiple forfeitures.
