That might be true if this was the 1950's.

Unfortunately, the internet & cellphones exist.

Players themselves have means to getting in contact with other teams & other players.

Lying & being sneaky about what players you might bring in via Portal actually increases the chances of having guys you already got on your team leaving or renegotiating.

The best policy is honesty. You can't trick players into staying on your team if they don't wanna be there for whatever reason. You can't hide a new Portal add. You can't keep other teams from offering your players deals & you can't keep players from seeking other opportunities elsewhere.

Because the internet exists & it takes literal seconds to actually communicate with someone.

Yes and no. Proprietary information and the rate of diffusion are still a thing. It’s is much harder to keep things secret now for sure. But still worth trying and making it harder for others to have certainty about your intentions.

That's presuming that players don't know each other & communicate amongst themselves, which they absolutely do.

And as it pertains to the teams, most players have an agent, representative, or family member negotiating on their behalf. So even if the information never became public it wouldn't prevent a potential bidding war from happening.

When players take visits to schools before deciding where they're going to commit, what do you think is happening during those visits?

Landing him honestly would be spending way too much money at DB for this season I think. We already have 5 starting caliber DBs. Paying for a 6th instead of another DT and top LB seems like a mistake to me. And he’s a 1yr guy. What are we gunna need to get another portal safety next yr?…

Not possible to spend too much on DBs after watching that abomination last season
