A bye week kind of question - How likely is Mark Stoops?

On 'The List' but would need to see who his OC would be.

An elite team obviously needs a lot of great players but a championship team needs an elite QB. Can Stoops, in time, recruit those types of QBs?

Look at the teams making the CFPs:

1. LSU
Won NC with elite 1st overall pick starting in the NFL (Burrow).

2. Clemson
Won NCs and multiple CPF appearances with elite 1st overall pick (Lawrence) and 1st rounder (Watson) starting in the NFL. (Watson was...)

3. Ohio State
NC and multiple CPF appearances with 1st rounder starting in the NFL. (Fields)

4. Alabama
Multiple NCs and CPF appearances with 1st rounders (Tua and Jones) and 2nd round pick (Hurts) starting in the NFL. (Tua starts, if healthy)

5. Oklahoma
Multiple CFP appearances elite 1st overall picks (Mayfield, Murray) starting in the NFL.

6. Georgia
What has cost UGA in recent CFP years? Not having a QB comparable to the above. May end up the difference between UGA and Bama this season.

I don't hate Stoops, but he's not who I want. Especially if the hiring process is a joke.

If they wait to fire Manny until the season is over to save money, OR announce they're keeping Blake after firing Manny, I 100% think Stoops is the guy they go after. Waiting proves they're still being cheap and keeping BJ means they don't care who the coach is. If that's the case I think Blake pretends to interview a few coaches he's not going to hire before immediately giving the job to Stoops, because his buyout is low. BJ will be able to say Stoops knows how to win in the SEC blah blah blah. We'll run a 1995 run heavy offense, win 8 or 9 games every year until he retires and they'll be happy with that.

And until proven otherwise, this is what I'm expecting.

He lost by a combined 111-16 to Bama, UGA and the Turds last year.

He lost to Tennessee, South Carolina and Miss. State the year before.

Agree, he would need to change his offense beliefs a little bit to have real success.

The pro-style offense won’t work here, I’m curious to see what Liam Coen does the rest of the season.

He sticked waaaay too long with Eddie Gran.

I'll be ecstatic with either Mario or Stoops, because at this point a hire like that is the only thing that will convince me that this university isn't actively trying to demolish their athletic programs.

You’d have to pay him a similar salary that you would Mario. He’s getting upwards of close to $6million a year in the next few years… to be worshiped for going 8-4. Why would he leave?

Much cheaper on the buyout though.
Yeah exactly, salary won’t be cheaper but the buy-out is almost non-existent

We need to start from scratch. Baby freaking steps. He would fix the culture immediately. He would force then Athletic Department to commit or he wouldn’t take the job. He would do way more with what we have than most people would. As mentioned, I think he would bring in a top-notch staff with established reputations.

He competes against the big boys in the SEC with less, so even if recruiting wasn’t top-10, I think he starts consistently competing for and winning the Coastal with less. He plays Georgia tough despite being at a talent deficit like Wake/Duke has against us.

I don’t see us ever getting blown out in big games. We might lose but we won’t get embarrassed like we have under Manuela.

He’s my top pick as of now and bringing him in would be a major step to showing that we are ready to turn this ship around.

Should we be worried about FSU here? They could be in the market too and have obvious ties. He checks a lot of the boxes they need, for the same reasons he does for us.
He's a no nonsense guy. Not the flashy **** hire like Kiffin or Mario, but I think he'd get the job done here and make us a consistent top 15 program who dominates the Coastal and gives Clemson a fight for the ACC title.

To me, that’s what we need right now. We are building back up a broken program. Like I said, baby steps. Even if he isn’t the one to take us over the top, he gets us back to respectability and consistency so the home run type hire WANTS to come here!

I've mentioned this in the past about our lack of NFL exp. on staff. Im pretty sure we only have Jess who coached 2 or 3 years in the NFL, DVD who played 6 years, and T Rob who had a cup of coffee in the NFL.

Here is Stoop's current staff @ Kentucky

Yeah, he might actually be the answer. He checks off a lot of boxes for both fans and the people cutting the checks.
He’s my number 3 preferred choice, behind Mario and Kiffin. I’d imagine his recruiting would at least be on par with Manny’s. If we give him enough money to build a good staff he could be successful here. Long term I don’t know if he wins big but winning the coastal and possibly an ACC title doesn’t seem that far fetched.

I thought his OC was Gran but after researching this new guy is a McVay disciple. That would be one of the few pro schemes I’d be interested in.

I would support Mark Stoops. Big Time. Strength of schedule is way harder in the SEC East than ACC Coastal. However, hiring an SEC coach that hasn't already been fired is not the way Miami does business anymore. I am betting some G5 nobody HC or yet another coordinator who has never been a HC.

Penn State stole Franklin from Vandy. If we want to be at Penn State level, we hire Stoops. (It would be an upgrade from now, believe me.)

Stoops is my guy right now. Will be watching close the rest of the season. Here is UK's schedule,

What this program was for mark richt to be healthy and stay here and stabilize us for 10 years. Build up our floor. That didn’t happen. Stoops would be a similar level hire. But swap out offense for defense. Plus I don’t think mark would make bad assistnt hires like richt did but he’d have a similar level of ability to build a staff. He was at Miami fspoo and Kentucky among other stops
