98 UCLA game

Was at the UCLA game with my buddy and his dad. One of the highlights of my childhood was rushing by the field, remember getting losing and shoe and getting kneed in the head. It was great!! Can’t remember any other games where we ever rushed the field after a victory since.

ESPN just posted a flashback including a lot of the media coverage preceding the game -- didnt realize gameday was there. Don't think im alone but this is the game that made me a fan as a kid, interesting to see the context sourrounding it.

The legend lives on.

What most of y'all yungins don't know is those years only the hardest core of us mfers still followed along...whole nation had abandoned us.
BEST years ever tbh...

Everyone with no real connection had taken sides in the FSU-UF rivalry. Miami was beyond an after though at the time

Edgerin James cemented me as a Miami hurricane fan that day. Started watching in '96, but that game was special.

In the years, I don't know whether I should thank him for it, or curse his name. :D

The Edge run where he put his hand on the ground and got a few more yards told me how special he was. That signified to me how good he was. I remember at the time me and my dad talking about that particular run.

First game Edge ever played for the Canes, I called my buddy and told him we had the next Eric ****erson.

Ironic that he would not only become that good, but play most of his career for the Colts.

Lucky guess on my part.

A great 2 game stretch for me. Sitting in the OB watching us win that game, don’t remember the bowl game. But sitting in the Meadowlands the opening game of the 99 season and watching JJ run it down Taints throats.

Pretty sure they beat the NC State that gave FSU their only loss of the regular season. The hype train was rolling going in a disappointing 99

Great find. Different era then but a lot of the fan base was really annoyed at Corso pounding on Sebastian. Crazy how far everything has come, both the game and theatrics.

I feel like kids these days get Uber Eats whenever they want…when I was growing up restaurant food was a rare treat. At halftime my dad said if we won we were getting pizza. It was a glorious feast indeed.

As a lifelong um fan, that legitimately felt like the turning of the tide. I don’t remember much of the ‘99 season, but 2000 obviously was what is was and then I started UM in ‘01 at the crest of the wave. What an amazing build.

Exactly.

Butch, like Schnellenberger had to almost start from scratch putting together a team.

This game was truly proof we had turned the tide, because we didn't win by them playing crappy - we beat them even though they were playing very well.

We just played better.
