9 of 11 ESPN writers have Miami as a playoff team

They're not being punished at all. They'd be ranked appropriately behind both ND and Miami if you look at the season as a whole, especially the last month.

You basically get all reward and very limited risk in these games. You win and get a bye. You lose and compete you'll have a spot. Bama didn't even compete. They're soft and an incomplete team. Dropping them isn’t a punishment — it's just aligning the rankings with reality.

Being punished is losing a tight game and then dropping. Getting thoroughly dismantled when no other game was on, warrants some kind of drop. UGA beat Bama worse than TT beat BYU. You cannot watch that performance and tell me Bama’s a playoff team.

The move with the least public backlash would actually be to leave ND out. Very few media members outside of Joey Galloway would decry that decision and they don’t have a conference advocating on their behalf.

Leaving Alabama out is probably the best decision in terms of putting the right teams in the playoff, though it would come with some backlash from the SEC media apparatus. That said, it’s hard to argue the SEC is getting screwed when they’re already getting 4 teams in.

In the end though, I think this committee loves ND (particularly the chair Yuracheck that watched ND annihilate Arkansas) AND still cares enough about the politics of getting the SEC’s runner up in the playoff a lot more than they care about having an ACC team in it.

Do you not think ESPN doesn't influence the CFP selection? Herbie was basically insulating in 2023 that FSU was going to get leapfrogged by Bama, and guess what - it happened.

I imagine ESPN would be ****ed if no ACC teams got in. After all, they still want ACC Network viewership and for the ACC to not completely destroy itself for the time being.

One of three things will happen tomorrow. The committee either devalues the conference championship games by putting Miami & ND in, the devalue OOC games by putting ND & Bama in, or they keep the sanctity of the conference championship games moving Bama to 10 & Miami moves to 9, thus keeping OOC games vitally important.

If the championship games and OOC games are the cash cows we are led to believe, option 3 will happen. I see no way the rankings stay unchanged. Not changing them would devalue both OOC games and conference championships because nothing was impacted except the byes. If the rankings of 9-12 stay the same we’d literally see the top 4 change and the 20s. The committee has obviously made **** up as they went along, but you can’t keep the status quo at 9-12 and then change the other championship participants. Makes no logical sense at all. Even for those brain dead morons.

The biggest thing to me is they’d be devaluing head to head by putting Notre Dame in over Miami which will do more damage to this sport than they realize. You’ll see less and less teams scheduling tough OOC games. This will finish me with this sport. If the games on the field don’t matter what the heck are we doing??

That’s not even mentioning that they got bludgeoned by a really terrible Florida State team at the beginning of the year. They’re a 3 loss team who peaked mid season and fell off a cliff to end the year.

Agree. I really can't believe they are fighting to put a bad team in. Not even competitive AND put ND over Miami. These are just people that don't like Miami. Hopefully committee who doesn't like Miami either doesn't love Bama as much as they love ND. They did leave the door cracked for Miami and yesterday blew it wide open.
