So many of you on here said this was an 8-4 team. We are looking more and more like an 8-4 team.
However, I was also on record as saying it CANNOT be that because everyone would start to turn on the coaches/team and it would hurt recruiting because there narrative will be “new coach same Miami”.
Well, here we are! One loss, in a game we totally could’ve and should’ve won. Yet, we got the dang dudes that run this site, mods, insider’s et al just oozing with self pity.
Guys, obviously when you lose it’s going to look terrible. It’s a loss!
So don’t forget, it’s about jimmys and joes as much or more than X’s and O’s! We don’t have enough jimmys or joes at this point. It is what it is.
Is there improvement? Do you see improvement? I do. I saw a much higher compete level. I saw a greatly improved OL. Heck I just saw both DJ Ivey and effin Corey Flagg play really solid to great games!

I also saw our issues at WR. I saw our issues with Will Mallory, the worst blocking TE in the history of terrible blocking TEs. Give me a lot more of Arroyo please.
I also saw some bone headed plays, Al Blades going for the strip and allowing a bunch more yards. I saw some of the poor tackling show up here and there. It is what it is.

But all in all, I saw what I’ve expected from this team. Why? Because the jimmys and joes are who I thought/knew they were. And I still think this is a 9-3+ team.

Show your faces all you 8-4 voters and again, tell me which other 3 games your willing to lose and NOT be a ***** and jump ship and call for coaches jobs! At some point we need to take some lumps and trust a coaching staff. And if it’s not this one, then fold the fuggin program cause we ain’t Bama or UGA is even the bucknuts! So get behind this staff and give them the time a sane you knows they need to make it right.

Big picture, I believe most of this board thought this would be a 9-3 team. We’re 2-1. No reason in the world we can’t still go 9-3 or really even 10-2.

Small picture, people are ****ed because this was a winnable game. And not because we got crazy lucky bounces, but instead because A&M is pretty average and is NOT Bama in 2021, or any of the good teams we got blown out by recently. We held up physically. We just played an average game, again, on a big stage. And we were flat out boring in doing so.

I said 9-3....but after what I saw Offense-wise...I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we went 8-4

Someone posted the link to a betting podcast evaluation of the year for ACC teams and the host said that Miami fans are the most delusional in the country lol. The spread for us this year was 8.5. The oddsmakers are pretty good at this stuff.

Honestly is a good reminder that it takes time to build a program.

This is Kirby Smart’s 7th season at UGA. The two years leading up to CMR’s firing he led the team to a record of 19-6 (10-3&9-3). Kirby’s first year he went 8-5.

We haven’t sustained any success in literally 2 decades. I agree with OP. Let’s not start calling for peoples heads before conference play starts pls even if we’re upset and have reason to be with the offense.

Said it before this is a 7 or 8 win team. This is year 1 and things need to be sorted out. What I really want to see is if this team can finish strong to end the year. Win a bowl and carry that into recruiting.

Won’t fight you on it. I still have hope that when we face lesser defenses, the talent will show up more. But I certainly wouldn’t die on that hill. What I watched Saturday night was incredibly depressing.

UNC has me incredibly nervous. If we get into a pinball game where it’s just score for score, and neither team can stop each other, we’ll wind up stopping ourselves at some point. If we win that one, there’s really nobody else on the schedule outside of Clemson that I think can do what A&M did.

Sh*t....FSU has me nervous. Their Defense is fast af....especially the LBers.

I expected 8-4/9-3 because of the jimmy and joes aspect and because typically that's how first year coaching changes go the ball just doesn't bounce your way, not because we would *****ed up at the 3 yard line after wanting to be this smashmouth football team.

I would not be at all surprised to see us go 10-2. I’m not being a Sunshine Pumper. I think Gattis is going with what he sees will work given the WR room that we have.

Santana Moss is not walking through that doorway. That said, we have to run heavy like we’re in the B1G. Our WR room will get better over time, I just can’t see us winning in Death Valley.

However, that OL and DL is only going to become more dominant as the season goes forward. And FSU plays in Our House this year. I just see Mario fixing a lot of what we saw that went wrong Saturday Night and this very young team getting better as the season goes forward.

“Texas A&M is a sure loss can’t win there with a new staff” etc.
loses game “see same ole Miami”
I saw a team that could easily win 9 games. We were physically much better than in the past and I’ve yet to see an ACC team that impresses me.
The gloom and doom over losing a game literally everyone said we would lose is just dumb.

Are you serious right now? People are disappointed we lost a winnable game. Some, like me, see signs of improvement while also being disappointed. I (we) see that this was a much more competitive game than expected given the talent advantage ATM has. We see that had we executed the game plan, we would have won. Yeah, there are concerns about our red zone offense but had our guys done their jobs, we would have won. And that's not what I expected. I thought we'd get ground down in the second half and ATM would start to pull away. But they didn't. They've got the talent to have done that to us, but we didn't let them.

So maybe ease up on telling people to back off the staff. We see what the staff is doing, and we appreciate it. We have concerns, but there's time for them to address those concerns. Bottom line, I didn't see an 8-4 team. I saw a team that CAN win 10 games, which is not what I expected. I think it's unlikely they actually win that many, but I see the improvement I wanted to see. This team did what I hoped they'd do pre-season. They went out and competed. Yes, they lost, but they did it to themselves. And the good news there is that's fixable. I don't know if it will get fixed this season, but it's fixable.

Agreed. The 15-0 crowd were the Sunshine Pumpers. But this is a team that already HAS the talent to win the games it should and take the Coastal. Winning at Death Valley? I’m glad the game is closer to the end of the year than now.

9-3, is what I'm seeing at the moment even with the WR situation.... I saw a different team in the trenches for the first time in a looooonngg time, that's what I'm gauging on.

We will beat unc, fswho is in our house and we are not the same 4th and 17 group with last year coaching..... Miami has a REAL coaching staff NOW....
I'll just have to be patient!!

****, I've been patiently WAITING for 17+ years.... I can wait a little more. But Get those Jimmys and Joes here ASAP THO!!

Nice write up, @frostycane

8-4 preseason. 8-4 today. The coaches need time. I am done drinking offseason Kool-aid. IDGAF what team we lose to, we have a staff that can right the ship with recruiting.

We beat ATM but they won the game.

This team is being de-Mannyfied slowly but surely. We will get there.

We’ve finally got some stout lines that play physical football. That alone will keep us in every game we play this season.

Sad that our WRs are the weakest link of the team. Losing X really hurts. Been hoping guys would step up but it’s becoming obvious we just don’t have stud material in that room.

So Gattis needs to involve the cot **** TEs more (Arroyo) and scheme for Knighten to get more touches.

The two most important games on our schedule are UNC and FSU. Win both and we are looking at 10-2. Split and we are 9-3.
