Jersey sales could indicate high hopes for Braxton Berrios

Braxton Berrios is the latest flavor of the month projection to be the next big slot receiver in New England. But before you dismiss Berrios as this year’s Austin Carr – the latest hopeful to be the next Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Julian Edelman or Danny Amendola – there are some statistics on Berrios’ side, before he’s even taken the field for Training Camp.
The NFLPA has shared its first Top 50 Players Sales list for the upcoming season. The list accounts for all officially licensed NFL player branded merchandise sold by over 70 NFLPA licensees, ranging from jerseys to socks with players faces on them. As one would expect, a certain New England quarterback is at the top or near the top in virtually every merchandise category. Tom Brady is still king.

And while other Patriots stars by the likes of Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman found themselves selling swag to the masses, there was another player who received recognition on the list: Braxton Berrios.
Berrios’ University of Miami No. 8 jersey was the second-highest selling collegiate co-branded jersey (adidas, Fanatics and Nike) from March 1 to May 31, 2018. The only player higher? You guessed it – Tom Brady’s classic navy and maize Michigan Wolverines uniform.
That means Berrios, who was taken in the sixth round in April’s draft, and who might not even crack the Patriots 53 man roster once September rolls around, beat out the likes of guys like Cam Newton’s Auburn jersey, Odell Beckham Jr.’s LSU jersey and even top-overall pick Baker Mayfield’s Oklahoma threads.

This list mean’s nothing in terms of the likelihood Berrios will make the team, nor how he’ll perform this summer, and it absolutely doesn’t tell if he’s on his way to replacing Julian Edelman. What it does signal, however, is the high hopes the fan base has for the 23-year-old – high hopes that differ from the optimism in young wide receivers of more recent seasons.

With Julian Edelman not only 32-years-old recovering from a torn ACL, but suspended for the first month of the season, Danny Amendola in Miami, Malcolm Mitchell seemingly unable to get on the field and Chris Hogan in a contract year, the Patriots need to find a young wide receiver to build around is greater than ever.

Who knows what Kenny Britt, Phillip Dorsett or Jordan Matthews will bring to the table this summer, so Braxton Berrios very well could have an inside track to earning himself a role on this team in the immediate future. It’s trendy to wear star football players college jerseys. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll be seeing University of Miami No. 8 will be fluttered throughout the parking lots of Gillette Stadium before Berrios takes the field as the team’s No. 1 receiver.

That's pretty awesome for many reasons. Great idol for kids to look up to, on the field, off the field, and in the classroom.

I wonder if McIntosh's physical condition was a contributing factor in his decision to leave early.

Maybe he knew his years to play were limited.

Felt lots of throws to JT resulted in an interception. No idea whose fault. Just what I noticed.

Dissapointing about Ford. Need Ford's light to turn on.

Dean is what we thought he was. Hes just too soft.

I'm concerned about this O-Line, in which we've heard nothing but bad things. Everything can suffer because of it. Sounds like it will be even worse than last year.

You are more concerned about the oline than richt is, he was just praising the talent week before last week on wqam radio and saying we got guys who can move people.

I'm excited about 12 personnel in which we can run multiple sets but not necessarily with 2 freshman....Mike Irvin II please please step up. We need you big boy.

I was really hoping Ford would be a major contributor this year, the blurb about him is very concerning. We need him to contribute

Interesting, because the article in the OP, and everything I've read from the spring was bad news about the O-line. But that's great to hear.

Dee Jay was the best RB we had last year.r He should have been featured much earlier in the year and more often.
When? deejay did some good things but let’s be clear homer Was clearly the best back last year

There are definitely concerns with the OL, but if you think the article in the OP was bad news about the OL then you are just reading with confirmation bias.

Banda believes Tyler Gauthier “can be one of the best centers in the country. A very powerful, powerful person.”

That seems like great news to me

▪ I’m most concerned about the offensive line, where UM has no potentially dominant starter unless Navaughn Donaldson makes the guard-to-tackle transition better than the Dolphins’ Laremy Tunsil did last year.

“He always wanted to go to tackle,” said Hayden Mahoney, who’s the front-runner at one guard spot. “He has the height, he has the weight. He’s doing extra reps every day. Learning tackle, watching pro guys, kind of seeing what they do and some of their technique. He’s excited about it. We’re all excited about it, too.”

Mixed bag. Barry Jackson's personal take is concern about the OL while making an obscure comparison to Laremy Tunsil with the dolphins. But, then you have word from a Canes OL that our extremely talented Freshman All-American OL who showed up and started from Day 1 is very excited about his move to tackle and is doing extra reps, studying the game, and has everyone excited about the move.

Those 2 blurbs are the entirety of what was posted about the OL in the OP. So, please tell me how this specific article provided bad news about the OL.
