6’7 Slovakian wing Timotej Malovec commits to Miami

Miami and coach Jai Lucas went all the way to Central Europe to recruit 6-foot-7 forward Timotej Malovec.



A member of Mega Mis of the ABA League, Timotej averaged 5.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks in just 25 minutes per contest in 29 games in 2024-25. Timotej also represented Slovakia in the European Championships game, where he recorded an average of 8.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.

Won't speak to the player since this is the first I've heard the name, but some context on the team he plays for - the team he plays for in the Adriatic League skews towards being more developmental and younger compared to most teams in the league, and they've put out 15 NBA draft picks since 2014 (Nikola Jokic easily the most prominent, but Zubac on the Clippers and Jovic on the Heat came from this program as well). Filip Petrusev went from this program to Gonzaga before eventually being an NBA draft pick.

They have another player on the roster (Bogoljub Markovic) who has NBA draft buzz this year.
 
Set appropriate expectations. That said, if this staff can teach and develop, this is the kind of guy you want to work with. He has ability, but hasn’t broken though yet. He's a bit older, he should be a guy that can play at the collegiate level.
 
I imagine this takes Harun Zrno off the board? Seem like very similar players.
