5-star WR Calvin Russell commits to [checks notes] Syracuse? For real, though... Syracuse

Im on the fans side that you dnt over pay for this kid. Never seen a 5star that so many had mixed emotions on his game. Im not paying 5star rates on him.
I also feel it could hurt us more IF he flames out, I doubt Miami gets a pass and it would be no different than if you put Innis in a Canes uniform with the identical stats as he has at OSU, would anyone doubt that the storyline would be "Miami cant develop a 5*" and that eval miss would be Miami's fault and the story would stick in local schools for the next 4-5 years all talking about how Innis was misused and did nothing while at UM and he would transfer.

Put it like this is Russell that much of a difference maker more than Paris is? To be wanting I'd assume significantly more money given Paris is currently an Iowa St commit?

I think it's simple take the difference in money, get Paris, then add that to securing a top DLineman.

Do the same thing at RB, take Derek Coopers money and get the IMG kid instead, and that money could legit probably be the difference in securing a second top DLineman AND a safety like Fitzpatrick or the Gorman kid.

Like absolutely nobody would be demanding we overpay for Cooper and Russell if they weren't local recruits, it's that simple. Given they've shown they have been looking for about any reason to go elsewhere - Especially Cooper!
Cooper a rb dime a dozen imo . Russel or the iowa kid we just need height at wr . Yes, is the Iowa kid is a lot cheaper you get him and dl . Top Dl/ Ol > wr /rb

And they’re not Dalvin Cook or Juedy or Cooper level talents . We would all want to spend the money if they were that

I agree but I do wonder if Mario is willing to pay a premium to keep certain kids "home".
Yes, but what does that actually do... For a difference maker it makes sense. Or for a guy with significant connections where it has tangible impact. So sure there is some minor PR impact of not losing top ranked guys to our of state programs (or rivals), but if you value them at $X, and you're the local program and someone else is willing to overpay.... Unless you think they are having Bain/Jeremiah Smith type impact players, let them go. Gotta be smart.

@DMoney just talked about how we are moving to value difference makers, well are those two difference makers where they are worth the premium JUst because they're local? I doubt it. Again Russell may be very good. Is he clearly superior to Paris though? Is he superior to him so much that you would rather have him than Paris and extra money to A true difference making DLineman? That's the choice imo.

Like if Getting Russell made it incredibly more likely we got Lennear and Lawrence next yr.... Sure. But I'd argue having Toney already accomplished that

I think you're overestimating a narrative. We've had WRs the last few years put up numbers. Restrepo, George, Horton, etc. Heck, even Colbie Young had 47-563 with TVD. Toney is going to put up numbers this year too. If he comes and does not produce, I think that says more about him than Miami, the OC, the offensive system, etc. I wouldn't be concerned.

The optics are worse if he leaves Miami and produces then if he stays and doesn't.

The last sentence would for sure be worst case scenario, so I agree optics are worse there. And I agree we saw all those guys produce I just meant Miami never gets a pass for that kind of stuff and especially when it is local those grumbles would be louder than the Restrepo's of the world saying look how Miami helped me put up numbers. Bad or negative news always tends to travel further than good or positive news. And again only local kids, no one in Cali would say we ruined 5* Kyle Wright, but we def got **** about Tracy Howard or Macus Fortson simply not being developed at Miami.
