I think it’s 10-15, but it might as well be zero. Has nothing to do with our staff’s effort or shortcomings, we just aren’t at that level right now.

For all the silly comparisons to Clemson, this much is true: it took them awhile of proving they were elite before they started crooting like it. Manny could be a top tier HC (not saying he is) and a kid like Washington still won’t come when Bama is a revolving door for national championships.

This. Clemson won the championship in 2016 based on superior evaluation and development, not because they had elite talent across the board.

We need to evaluate and develop at an elite level before we can expect to recruit at an elite level. Bags or no bags. Kids and parents/handlers, more than anything, want to know they are going to get developed properly and get drafted high. We haven’t lived up to our end of the bargain for over a decade. Hopefully Diaz will be the man to change that.

And yet both Jordan and Mallory are Canes. I expect Jordan got his fair share of promises of extra benefits thrown at him during his recruiting cycle. ... I think Washington coming twice to visit Miami shows we are in the race. We need to give him a reason to commit by winning on the field. If Enos can pull a QB out of his hat, and solve the OT issue, we're a 10+ win team. That could be enough.

I had never seen or really heard of this kid before. Saw a clip of him and his burst actually made me stop and look the kid up. Then I see he’s a 6-8 TE and I can tell you he’s breathtaking.

Essentially only injury is going to cause a kid that naturally talented to bust.

It’s too bad we have a low chance at this one. Read that quote on Alabama and you see that’s a monster that would take an improbable feat to take him away from there. Wins and money are hard to blame the kid.

Some you guys are rookies to this crootin **** and it shows. This is a 0.00% chance. I don’t know him or have I looked at any of his information but probably gonna end up at bama Georgia or Clemson

So the coaches should back off him now because he’s probably gonna end up at Bama, Georgia or Clemson? Fck outta here, being negative don’t make you no expert, if you want us to stop crootin, tell the coaches yourself.

If he played any other position I’d say 0% chance he ends up here, but this is the one position that we’ve been elite at developing big time talent for the last two decades. Pretty sure that’s why Brevin and Mallory ended up here. Fingers crossed.

Inday - I think there may be another form of attraction if one wishes to make the pitch:

Alabama/Clemson have such a machine - lots of top talent - and they're on automatic - they SHOULD win and they SHOULD be playing for National Championships.

They're like modern day Goliaths.

But. How proud would Goliath be to smash little David? Should be no effort at all. These schools are huge - lots of money - lots of talent - I mean, I've seen Saban do less with more - and it sticks out that he does less with more.

But how'd you like to play for David? We're a small school, in three separate runs on five occasions - we became Giant Killers - and this coach Diaz is cut from the same cloth as previous Giant slaying coaches here - and going to once again start slaying Giants.

So - which would be more fun? Where would your talents stick out more? As just another part of a huge machine? Or shine on a team of Giant Slayers that will be slaying Giants for years to come?

This David just kicked off his oversized armor - and is picking out his stones from the creek. We have some battles coming up, and we gonna drop a bunch of 'em.

Saw him in person...young blood is huge. He rumbles down field. He is just way bigger and stronger than everyone else. Impressive specimen of a mammal, above human beings. I am hearing the Bag$ are serious! And after seeing him I believe it.

The mistake in the argument that there is a 0% chance he comes because of how much money other schools offer is the assumption that $100,000 will be that persuasive. It simply isn’t to all, and even many families who have their heads on straight.
Example, the 5 star recruit Kyle Hamiton who is attending Notre Dame next year is a very close family friend since he was 9 years old. His dad trains both my kids in basketball for the past 4-5 years. And I tell you with utmost confidence that he was offered a big upfront number to attend Georgia, as well as on going monthly payments. And Kyle and his family recognized that a ND education was worth a great deal more over a lifetime than 100k and a UGA education, even though UGA is a good school. ND is a great school. Kids pick ND and Stanford and Duke (basketball), not only for the possibility of playing professionally but also because of the educational value and alumni resources. And I mean alumni as in CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies, not the local car dealer. Miami needs to either offer money or become one of those schools where the educational value over a lifetime trumps upfront money.
Has anyone considered that maybe Washington comes from an educated family and they won’t be persuaded by a bag?

2020 5-star TE Darnell Washington made his second cross-country visit to Coral Gables to check out the University of Miami and compete in UM’s annual Paradise Camp this weekend.

If the Desert Pines (NV) star had any lingering doubters still out there on whether he was one of the top players in the country, he pretty soundly put the lid on that talk quickly on Saturday. Washington was by far the standout of a loaded camp, and he dominated from start to finish. In what was no coincidence, the coaches had him mainly working with Miami 4-star QB commit Tyler Van Dyke, and Washington enjoyed catching passes from the Connecticut gunslinger.

“He’s a good quarterback, he knows how to put it on the money,” Washington said of Van Dyke. “If he wants it back shoulder, he can put it back shoulder. He’s a smart quarterback, he’s got that high IQ I believe. He makes smart decisions.”

Van Dyke has quickly developed a reputation as a recruiter and leader in Miami’s class, and he noticeably spent a lot of time talking with Washington at the event.

“I had seen him at couple Rivals (camps), but I haven’t really spoken to him until today,” Washington said of Van Dyke. “So, I guess we’re just starting to build this relationship.”

Someone that Washington has been building a relationship with for much longer is Miami TE coach Stephen Field.

“Coach Field, he’s a good guy. He’s relaxed,” Washington said. “He talks to me about anything and everything, we just got that vibe.”

Field has been looking for a second tight end in the 2020 class to pair with current commit Dominic Mammarelli, and is pitching Washington on the vast cache of NFL tight ends that came through and developed their game at Miami.

“Just how they use their tight ends, their tradition,” Washington said. “Also, iron sharpens iron, they have great defensive players there. If I want to be the best, I have to compete against the best.”

The 6-8 250 pound prospect enjoyed the star power that Miami and coach Manny Diaz brought to Paradise in the form of UM’s past great athletes, and Washington felt his favorite former Cane was a national champion and 3-time Super Bowl winning receiver.

“Michael Irvin, he a dude, he a stud - a hall of famer,” Washington said. “His speech was great, I think he’s a good motivational speaker. He’s a good dude, I talked to him a little yesterday, like a 1-on-1 talk at the dinner. Just a good dude and I like him a lot. I don’t know his background, but he gets where I come from.”

With Irvin getting in on the recruiting action, it’s clear Miami put on the full-court press with Washington, but it didn’t stop there. Miami sophomore TE Brevin Jordan also spent some time getting to know Washington and the pair have a connection as tight ends from Las Vegas.

“We came from the same background... I knew Brevin in Las Vegas, but we didn’t talk much because we went to different schools,” Washington said. “I didn’t really start looking into recruits until my sophomore year, and that’s when he was already going to college. I heard of him and seen him play a little bit.”

What was Jordan’s message to Washington about what it’s like to be a Hurricane?

“He told me how much he likes it here and how they use him,” Washington said. “He tells me how coach Field is, he tells me good things about coach Field.”

In terms of other schools, the Alabama Crimson Tide have been making a move with Washington lately and he took some time to talk about what attracts him to Tuscaloosa.

“Alabama is just Alabama, they win. You can’t really say much more, it’s obvious,” Washington said. “Nick Saban, he’s a good dude.”

Washington is planning to set up his official visits during the fall and wants to take each OV for a game weekend at that school. Where does he see those official visits going?

“I’m not 100% sure,” Washington said. “With my top 5, I don’t want to say something now, and then I change my mind. I’m going to release that in a couple weeks, for sure those will be the schools I want to take my officials to and my final top 5.”

After his officials, Washington anticipates he will make an announcement of his decision at the Under Armour game in January.

Thank you for the excellent overview Stefan! I would love to have this kid be part of our 2020 class. What do you think our chances are?

I think this is a great take on the situation. I've mentioned it a couple of times in the past.

Why not come to the U and help be a major part of returning the program where it should be. Become a legend. Alabaga, Ubaga, and Clem$on are loaded with talent and it will be a challenge to make a name for oneself.

However, it's obvious the lure of recent success and $$$ will be extremely difficult to overcome.

I would not discount Texas, OU, or Ohio State either.
