It is safe to say that the Miami Hurricanes got one in five-star wide receiver A'Mir Sears. We might've just witnessed one of the best single-game performances we will ever see this high school football season.

The No. 8 Columbus Explorers (2-0) defeated the No. 1 team in America the Bishop Gorman Gaels (2-1) 33-28 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With the victory, the Explorers will move up significantly in the CIS's Top-15 South Florida Football Rankings.

Sears torched Bishop Gorman all night and made it clear that he was the best player on the field. Sears made multiple big explosive plays on the offensive and defensive end to surpass the Gales, recording two touchdown grabs and three interception on the defensive end.



Sears was one of the main reasons why Columbus got off to such a hot start. In the second quarter, he came up with a big-time interception to set up Columbus, with one play later he made an amazing grab to push their lead to 20-0. In the second half, the Gaels were driving downfield; however, Sears made his presence known by jumping a route for a huge momentum shift interception.



With Columbus taking down arguably the best high school football team in the nation, the Explorers will make a huge rise in the rankings and will continue to build momentum as they head to play the No. 1 team in South Florida, St. Thomas Aquinas.

A’mir Sears turns in historic two-way performance​

One of the weekend’s more star-studded matchups took place at a neutral site in Ft. Lauderdale, where national powerhouse Las Vegas Bishop Gorman faced Miami Christopher Columbus Both teams featured multiple Power Four prospects across several recruiting classes, but none shined brighter than Miami commit A’mir Sears. The Rivals Industry five-star cornerback put together one of the most complete individual games you’ll see, spurring a huge upset despite his team being 29-point underdogs. Sears made his presence felt on both sides of the ball as a wide receiver and defensive back. He caught five passes at receiver and scored twice, one on a go route against Oregon commit Hayden Stepp, a top 100 cornerback, while intercepting three passes on defense. His instincts and nose for the football make him appear to be moving at a different speed than everyone else on the field. Combine that with his natural ball skills and athleticism, and you have dynamic playmaking ability that shows up no matter where he lines up. Originally a 2028 prospect, Sears is fresh off his commitment to the Hurricanes and reclassification into the 2027 cycle.

Sears’ senior quarterback, Northern Illinois commit Kai Moore, threw for over 400 yards on the day, putting together an extremely strong performance against one of the stronger defensive units in the country. On the defensive side of the ball for Columbus, newly minted Rivals Top 100 2029 four-star prospect Sekou Toure collected six tackles. – Cody Bellaire

He isn’t a 5 star to me. Whatever is higher than a 5 star is what A1 is. He is the elite of the elite

Watching Sears play against Bishop Gorman was like watching Travis Hunter in the Under Armour All-American game. I called people after that game and said Hunter was the best WR and DB in the game. A1 is that. Against the number 1 team in the country A1 was the best WR and DB in the game. It’s outrageous to be that good at that level.

Yawn …I picked off 3 passes in an Intramural game back in 2000 at FSU …plus he was cramping up all game, I thought he was an uber athlete? Downgraded to high 3 star..
