5-Star 2028 Edge Asher Ghioto: "Miami is definitely a top school for me."

The Miami Hurricanes have been in hot pursuit for one of the nation's best edge rushers in the 2028 class, Asher Ghioto. He is viewed as a five-star prospect out of Jacksonville (Fla.) where he plays his high school football for The Bolles School--a school that is home to many top prospects in the country.

Miami Hurricanes' defensive line Coach Jason Taylor has made it known that Ghioto is a top priority in the class and will do anything to get him to Miami. I say it every time and I will say it again: When you have a legitimate option to be coached by NFL Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, who developed two first-round edge rushers into the NFL, Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor. It makes it hard not to consider playing for Miami.

He believes that he can thrive in defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman's system and fit into Jason Taylor edge-rusher scheme: "I think I’d fit perfectly into their system," he added. "I like their attack style and physical defense. I feel like I can move up and down the line and play in many different positions."

Ghioto has been enjoying the attention so far from the Hurricanes' coaching staff, naming the Hurricanes a top school: "I’m getting a lot of attention from Miami, Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, USC, UCLA, Ole Miss, Oregon, and a few others."

According to multiple sources, the Hurricanes are considered as one of the top dogs in his recruitment.

Ghioto noted that he doesn't have any plans on making a college decision anytime soon, he is fully focused on his junior season and wants to win a state championship: "I haven’t made any decisions yet," he added. "I’ve been pretty focused on playing football and improving my skills. I feel like I still have plenty of time to make that decision. My main focus right now is helping my team get back to the state championship."

He will be in attendance for the Miami Hurricanes rivalry game against the Florida State Seminoles on October 17th, headlining the visitors list group: "I’m coming to Miami for the Florida State game. I’ll also be visiting Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State, and Ole Miss."

According to the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings, he is currently viewed as the nation's No. 3 overall player in his class, No. 1 edge rusher, and No. 2 player out of Florida. This past season, he recorded 84 tackles, 23 sacks, two pass deflection, and one forced fumble.

The 6-foot-5, and 240-pound edge rusher talks with Hurricanes' coaches everyday, trying to lure him into Coral Gables: "What stands out with Miami is the relationship we have," he added. "We talk every day and it’s not just about football. We also talk about life. They text with my parents daily, which is really cool. Coach Cristobal has said I’m his number one guy and he’s been showing me a lot of love. And playing in paradise is not a bad thing. I mean, it’s Miami."

I think its gonna come down to JT and Hetherman. If either is still at UM when he puts pent to paper we'll get him.

JT is a such a huge selling point. Give that man a lifetime contract.
Do you think JT is ready for defense coordinator? I can see both being highly sought if we have another great defense. Don't know if we can afford to keep both. If Heatherman bounced, we could offer JT the DC gig

Honestly, I rather us keep Heatherman. I love JT but we had him when our defense was cheeks and while his recruiting has always been top notch Heatherman is the psycho that made me love last years defense and the identity he establishes fits the athletes and dade county dogs that will always be here. I don’t know what needs to be done to keep him but Heatherman, to me, is priority number 1 for the coaching staff since Cristobal and Mirabal are lifers.

Yes, I'd rather keep Heatherman

I don't see JT leaving for another job, outside the Dolphins! Here is why! He retired in 2011 after 15 years with 13 of those with the Dolphins! His oldest kids where still in grade school! He coached both is young boys in HS in South Florida! He easily could have gone in to coaching in college and then the NFL right away! It was important for him to be around his kid growing up and going to HS down in South Florida! He and second wife have 6 year old! Jason is 51! If we follow his pattern, he will want to coach his son and or be around during HS, which will be about 6 to 7 years from now and Jason will be 57! Like I said, the only NFL job, I see him going for would be the Dolphins because of his young son! If not the Dolphin, he will stay with the Canes for at least 5 to 10 more years!

What experience does JT have in coordinating defenses?

I think we’re in a pretty dam good spot here however i do find it intriguing that ND is gaining traction with him. Him and Xander camped there last year and only Asher got an offer. Now that ND legacy Xander has his offer as well, i expect them to eventually overtake us for his, meaning X here, top school. Asher doesn’t have that type of connection however i could see him wanting to play with Xander in college.

JT is obviously very important here however given what Asher recently said in an interview, it seems like he’s thinking about his school choice in a broader sense.

This is Mario’s exact pitch lmaooooo

UF is the hometown school but i don’t think they’ll have their operations ramped up enough to really challenge UM/ND here. All the other schools im not too worried about.

No doubt about it. Lose one or both, especially JT, going to be tough

What would be the appeal for Taylor to be a DC? Hes made all the money in the world, lives in Miami, and gets to stay around the game just teaching his craft to young players at a winning program. I could see him leaving if we horrible programs like FSU or UF. But winning is fun. He didn’t get to win a championship as a player but I imagine it would vindicating to win a championship as a key part of the resurgent UM program.
