Miami currently holds a total of two commitment in the 2028 recruiting class, as Mario Cristobal continues to hunt for the next recruits to add to the cycle. The Hurricanes recently offered class of 2028 four-star safety Brandon Nash. He talked with CanesInSight about his recruitment and other teams pursuing him.
Nash is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound safety out of Bellflower, California, playing high school football for St. John Bosco. He is a highly sought-after recruit who holds over a dozen offers from many power-five programs. During the summer, he visited both Ohio State and Oklahoma for an unofficial visit. With Miami being a fresh school to his recruitment, he hasn't gotten a chance to visit and experience the sunshine down in Coral Gables; however, he is planning a game-day visit: "Hoping to get out there this fall for a game," he added. "I am also planning on trying to make it to as many of my top schools as I can. I don’t have any dates confirmed yet," he told CanesInSight.
According to the 247Sports Composite Recruiting Rankings, he is considered as a blue-chip four-star prospect. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 143 overall player, No. 12 safety, and No. 9 player out of California. He stated nine schools are recruiting him the hardest in his recruitment as he prepares for his junior season: UCLA, California, Arizona State, Washington, Ohio State, Arizona, Oklahoma, Kansas and Miami."
Nash is looking forward to getting out of South for a game-day visit to Coral Gables. He has enjoyed his conversations with the Hurricanes coaches: "I have enjoyed my conversations with the coaches and I am grateful they are interested in me. I am looking forward to getting out there for a visit." At the end of his junior season, Nash plans on narrowing down his recruitment list while also keeping his options open. He told CanesInSight that he doesn't have a timeline on when he will commit to a school.
"Honestly, it could be anytime from this season through going on official visits," he added. "I will definitely be narrowing my list down at the end of the season." This past season at St. John Bosco, he led the Braves to an overall record of 9-2 and 4-1 in league play. He recorded a total of 24 tackles, one interception, and 1.0 tackles for loss in nine outings. During his freshman season, he posted 33 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and one interception.
"At Bosco, we run a very similar scheme to most colleges. Coach Cristobal comes from the same coaching tree where we actually get our defense from," he added. "I have experience and I’m going to play this season in the nickel and safety. I believe I could fit into either of those positions and their defense and play well," Nash told CanesInSight. Nash stated that Mario Cristobal is a game-changer, and he believes that the Hurricanes are back at the top of college football:
