Same reason why Miami didn't recruit Tutu Atwell or Michael Pratt (to name a few).

Look, if this kid was the only DE in our recruiting class I'd be concerned but he's not and I'm not against a coach who wants to take a flyer after he locked in a couple of elite guys.

We need to hit/develop some of these DE. If Kelly, Lightfoot, Rudolph, McConathy can hit even some level of success in 2024, our DE recruits will get the JT star boost much like our OL commits should always get a boost being recruited by Mario.

Perhaps they are full at the position he plays. I dont know if that's the case but it could be as simple as that.
