2019 Carol City (FL) 3-star DE Malcolm Ray has slowly been gaining more and more interest from schools on the recruiting trail. Even the local Miami Hurricanes have been poking around Ray lately, as defensive coordinator Manny Diaz watched him play at a spring practice last month.

“Yeah, coach Manny came out, but I couldn’t talk to him [due to NCAA restrictions],” Ray said. “I haven’t heard from them about an offer yet.”

If that UM offer did come in, it wouldn’t be long until Ray was a Cane. He’s already visited campus and could see himself fitting into the Hurricane culture seamlessly.

“I’ll be happy to have the offer honestly,” Ray said. “I’d wait, but I’d probably commit. I love the campus and it’s a great environment and I think I’ll fit in perfect.”

Last season for Carol City, Ray recorded 18.5 TFL, 10.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries. So what more does he need to do to land a Miami offer?

“What I need to do is to show them that I’m going to stay hungry, stay humble, and stay consistent,” said Ray.

While, right now, the 6’2” 240 pounder prefers to take his recruitment slow and keep an open mind regarding leaders, Ray does have a list of schools he hears from the most.

“That’d be Temple, USF, FIU, UAB,” Ray said.

Ray currently lists 12 total offers, and has bids from Power 5 schools like Louisville, Syracuse, Kentucky, and Wake Forest as well. With no decision date in sight, Ray does know what he’ll be looking for in a school, and it’ll be the program that gives him the biggest family-feel that will end up with his signature.

“I have no decision time in mind yet, but I’ll will let you guys know,” Ray says. “I’m looking for a family environment.”

This is the type of prospect that we will hear of on Sunday 5-6 years from now and wonder how he got away. I think Ray is poised for a huge senior year.
