3 Players With a Golden Opportunity

The thing about Marty is he was our most complete back. So I am not sure he’s replaceable as far as the role he played. What is the book on Lyle as a receiver and a blocker?

Lyle was trusted enough in pass pro to earn the RB1 job out of camp in '25, and he caught a high leverage pass late vs LOU I believe. If we had to lose a player like Marty Brown, getting Jordan Lyle back definitely softens the blow long-term, and perhaps in the short term too if Fletcher misses time.

How about Upshaw being the clear 3 now? Idt anyone has a bigger opportunity then him.

Idk that we even have a true number 2 at receiver. Coop, upshaw, and Moore kinda been playing similar roles. I thought Moore was kinda locking down that spot but obviously next man up now.

Honestly I'd rest Fletcher against CMU and start Lyle/Mallory. Let them compete to see who is RB2 against Clemson.

As far as the offensive line goes I'll just echo what everyone is saying. Enough with the SJ experiment. Play all the freshmen this week. We'll still win by 30 if Mensah and Toney can go

We’ve had some rough injury luck these past few weeks. Thankfully, in areas where there is depth. Here’s three players who have an opportunity to break out.

(1) Jordan Lyle - sometimes we forget that Lyle was RB1 going into the ND game last year. He’s shown flashes of what he’s capable of. When Lyle went down, which was seen as devastating at the time, Marty Brown took that opportunity and ran with it. In a weird reversal, with Brown going down, Lyle now has that same opportunity.

(2) Dre Jacobs - WR1 with SCAR last year, Dre Jacobs has been WR5 this year. Miami still has a deep and talented WR room, but Jacobs has an opportunity for much more playing time.

(3) Soumarion Wingo - one of our best WR prospects in awhile, Wingo has had some great reps this year. He’ll have a great opportunity now to get more reps and make an impact.

Injuries suck, and we’re beat up right now but there’s a bright line here. We have depth and talent. Young guys need to step up. We also have a favorable schedule right now. CMU is a scrimmage and Clemson is terrible.

I view Marty as our 2008 Tebow where he always picked up the needed 1-2 yds. Marty was automatic for us.

Lmfao, he already replaced brown last year bud, even had games where he had more carries than Fletcher.

If anything, Pringle’s problem against Wake was his lack of patience and trying too hard to force himself thru gaps that were not there. Still, OLine did him no favors.


All Mallory’s running ‘hard,’ as you describe it, was good for an extra 0.28 yards per carry despite having nearly double the rushing attempts.

Mallory is the most unknown. What i take umbrage with is the claim presented as a fact that one guy really showed out on Friday, and the other ran soft. When the numbers or eye test don’t back that up. How can one guy be soft for 22 yards on 5 touches while the other had 23 yards on 7 touches?

Moreover, Pringle is a weapon in the passing game so his runs aren’t his only use. This year he’s been the best receiving back and hopefully we use him more that way.

Against VT, we completely went away from both Marty and Fletcher in favor of Pringle for a reason. So it’s just funnystyle to act like these games never happened. Mallory and Lyle haven’t split 28 carries w/ Fletcher, Marty and themselves like Pringle did against Pitt and come out with nearly double the rushing yards.

If Pringle or CWH had the season Lyle had last year, no one would be expecting them to return and save our running back room. Pringle’s ypc, which was the highest in the RB room, nearly doubled Lyle’s ypc last season; and CWH had the same amount of rushing yards on 13 less carries.

I think Milan Parris & Briggs are two guys with size & Athletic ability To be Redzone Threats.

In Particular Parris because he Can stretch the Field & at 6’6 205lbs there at things he can do like Snatching the ball at highest point Or From Defenders . That skill is a Valuable weapon for Mensah.

You can’t just look at numbers and say, well he had 1 more yard on 2 more carries so the other guy if he had those 2 more carries he would then have had more yards. If I were calling the plays Mallory is getting those carries at the end of the game.

I’d add Cantwell, Congdon, Woodrow and Pickett to that list. One or two of these players will get a shot to earn a starting spot along the O-line.
